Great Kingman Casey pic. Never saw that one before.

Giant oversight on my part not to include more Casey in that OP.

I figgered you'd be all over that '58 Bressoud card, including the Topps art department's guess at what the new Giants caps might look like.

Those theoretical caps look more like a San Jose Giants cap sending a distress signal.

How do I un-see these things?

I am honored to have a creation on The Wall Of Giants. The two Willie cards, nickname and "then & now", are two fantastic customs. The nickname card is one of the best I've ever seen because to reproduce that font is a bitch and a half. That's the card I used for the header at http://cardartistry.forumotion.com/.

That was the whole point. What's going on in that photograph of the shirtless guitar holding feller? Who is he? Why is he shirtless? And what's the deal with the guitar? First correct answer gets a custom DIY card (my choice) of a one-time Met on another team that zvonnie will gladly make for you.

The honor's all mine. If you ever got into the habit of making Padres Miller style cards (cards of Mets on another team, like your '63 Colt .45s Staub, they'd be all over these threads.

And while we're quizzing, name the two interlopers atop this thread in the same post, and you'll also win a custom DIY card (my choice) of a one-time Met on another team that zvonnie will gladly make for you.

Oh. And clappers. Winners get clappers, too.

Jesus Alou has got to be one of em.

I don't know if I'll "gladly" make 'em, but I'll make 'em. If I guessed right I will gladly make half a card for someone.

Wow, I forgot. And I even made a comment here once about his nervous tick. I saw him play live as a Met. Man, slippin' in my old age.

That 1976 card brought it back.

Almost forgot. During the game I tried to clean this up and make it clearer.

Looks sharper shrunk down.

I had to pause for a while when I saw the picture of Casey Stengel as a player.
Thanks.

How about Bill Monbouquette & Sherman Jones, two names I don't recall.

Monbo was George Bamberger's pitching coach. Sherman Jones is better known as Roadblock, and he was the starter the first time the Mets played a home game, April 13, 1962.

What's going on in that photograph of the shirtless guitar holding feller?

A ballplayer is rocking his shit while changing in the clubhouse.

Who is he?

Johnny Monell. Louis Vutton with the Fuji guitar.

Why is he shirtless?

Rookie Hazing Day.

And what's the deal with the guitar?

The Giants thought it would be high-LAR-ious to dress their rookies as nekkid singing cowboys in Times Square.

How'dja know all that? Probably from maintaining that roster thread all year long. You're probably the only one here who can identify Monell out of his Mets uni.

I'd bet you'd like to own a custom Don Cardwell '70 style Topps Braves card. Cardwell went to Atlanta mid-1970 and was released at the end of the year. He was done. There ain't no Cardwell Braves card and I could use one for the next card tread. That's why you need a Cardwell. And Cardwell deserves a card because he's a '69 Met.

Either that or a 1961 Al Jackson in a Pirates uni. I'll make it your choice.

Your interlopers are:

[fimg=255]https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/529/18468215615_394e2ce65f_o.jpg[/fimg][fimg=255]https://c1.staticflickr.com/1/447/18468215625_6eedb24475_o.jpg[/fimg]

Ernie Bowman: Bowman never played for the Mets, so he's an interloper as far as this thread is concerned. Bowman isn't even a Phantom Met as he never made the team's 25 man roster either. Acquired in a trade with the Braves at the end of the '65 season, Bowman was invited to the Mets spring training camp in '66 and given a shot at making the big club. He didn't, and in fact, would never make it to the majors again. Still, Topps carded Bowman, as you can see, based on Bowman's reasonable shot to make the 25 man roster of a very bad team. Instead, Bowman was assigned to the Mets Jacksonville minor league team, where he teamed with several future World Champion 1969 Mets, including Bud Harrelson and Tom Seaver. Bowman also appears in a 1981 TCMA card set featuring players from the '60's -- strangely enough, in a Mets uniform (below) -- even though the TCMA card was printed 15 years after Bowman's Spring Training invite to St. Petersburg and by then, Bowman had no chance of making the Mets big team.

Bob G. Miller Miller never played for the Giants. I found a 1963 Topps style Miller Giants custom card on the web, and "borrowed" it for this thread. I couldn't find any information connecting Miller to the Giants and the custom-card creator gave no explanation for the card's origin. So I'm declaring Miller a Mets/Giants interloper. Any better info linking Miller to the Giants would be appreciated. Help clear up the mystery of the Milller faux Giants card. So I can sleep better at night. Because, there is that picture of Miller in a Giants uniform.
