Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 17, 2015 Author Posted August 17, 2015 Yanx load bases with no outs in bottom 10: double, single, IWTwins using a 5-man infield vs Chase Headley. And the shift works as Headley grounds the ball right at an infielder ... but it gets booted and Minnesota loses its 97th straight vs the Yanx

They should both have something to play for in this late-season match up.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 20, 2015 Posted August 20, 2015 too good. http://www.si.com/mlb/2015/08/20/new-york-yankees-brian-cashman-derek-jeter-tulowitzki?xid=DerekUsedSteroidsWho would you rather have playing shortstop this year than me? Jeter asked Cashman.Do you really want me to answer that? Cashman replied.Sometimes honesty hurts, Cashman told SI. But if you're being paid to do the job, do the job. You have to honor the job description; if not, you're a fraud or stealing money.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2015 Author Posted August 20, 2015 I'm sure there are Yanqui fans that are going to get their panties in a twist over this "news" but Cashman is, of course, absolutely right and anyone who claims not to prefer a 25 y/o Tulowitski over a 36 y/o Jeter is either stupid or lying. And y'know, Jetes, when you opted for the guarantee of a 10-year contract you signed when you were 26, what age did you think you were going to be when it ended? Apparently he thought he was going to be an age when he was still the best option.

He had the best shortstop in baseball on his team. But Jeter made him played third base.Later
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 21, 2015 Posted August 21, 2015 Did you guys know that Saint Jeter's -236 Defensive Runs Saved is the worst all time for any player in the entire history of baseball? just checking.
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 Posada's number retired today. No, really!
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Fans will then have to wait all the way until tomorrow for Pettitte's ceremony. They probably felt they needed to schedule them for the same weekend after Jeter told them he wasn't going to fly in twice.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 22, 2015 Posted August 22, 2015 That's probably it.I mean, not just Jeter, but Yogi and Reggie and Oscar Gamble and whoever. But man, they couldn't schedule these a year apart?

I'm going to write that down, for use at the most appropriate moment when being harassed by the YLDB at work.It would have been higher, but he gave out gift baskets to the statisticians.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 22, 2015 Author Posted August 22, 2015 Doesn't matter what the facts say, we all know that Jeter's stats were great except when they weren't at which point the argument shifts to Jeter's not about stats.Besides, he made all the defensive plays when they mattered anyway.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Author Posted August 23, 2015 Man, even when the Indians win they suck. They got 9 hits [u:39mlv2f2]plus 10 walks[/u:39mlv2f2] from the Yanx today and managed to score all of four runs and I was sure they were going to blow it in the end.But 4-3 win (that Francisco Lindor guy at SS killed the Yanx all weekend) and, with the Jays leading early out west, it could be another flip-flop of 1st & 2nd in the AL East (although the loser of that duel has a large lead in the WC race).Sabbath left in the 2nd with some sort of knee injury. Funny how often that happens to guys tipping it at 300+
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 23, 2015 Posted August 23, 2015 I looked at that Cleveland lineup and the only guy I remember seeing is Brantley. The only other guy I ever heard of was Lindor, who was a highly rated prospect. I used to be able to name at least 20 players on every major league 25 man roster. This is depressing.Later
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Author Posted August 24, 2015 The Astros got "Ollie'd" tonight.Scoreless game in the 9th, they bring in Ollie Perez to face a couple of lefty's: Walk, WP, IW, BBSo they bring in a reliever to try and pull out a miracle but Beltran Sac Fly'd the Yanx to a win on the 2nd pitch.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 24, 2015 Posted August 24, 2015 Anemic MFYs barely eke out a run while the big, bad Mets simply pound opponents into dust.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 25, 2015 Posted August 25, 2015 That was not lost on me as I checked the scores last night.
nymr83 Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 the Carlos Gomez non-trade is the gift that keeps on giving for Mets fans - as he homered against the Yankees last night for Houston...The Yankees bench said something to Carlos who then told them to SHUT UP!!, Girardi did it like this. and then here's Carlos in the Post Game with the double you-suck whammy.."I don't care what Joe Girardi says. ... If [the Yankees] feel frustrated, that's not my problem. This is part of the game, part of the nature of competition, and those who don't know how to compete, can just go home and cry."
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 The Yankee bench was trying to start something with Gomez earlier in the game when he popped out. Home run came in his next plate appearance.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Nice 8-whiff outing from Collin McHugh today as the Astros lead the MFYs 6-2 in the 8th
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Author Posted August 26, 2015 The funny thing about the Yanx is that just as the Mets have morphed recently from a total pitching/pitiful hitting team to one more balanced lately, the Yanx are doing just about the opposite.Their very shaky pitching staff early in the year is improving [Eovaldi is finally starting to harness his 'stuff', call-up Severino is doing well, and Sabathia's injury may actually HELP the staff] but their bats are suddenly starting to show their age. Both Ellsbury & Gardner are slumping at the top of the order while ARod, who had an 850+ OPS for every month this year, suddenly is turning in a 525 in August and Teixeira's in a similar boat (plus he's playing hurt). It all adds up to their near league leading runs scored for the year being near the bottom of the pile for the last month now.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2015 Posted August 26, 2015 Mets: 70-56, 1st PlaceMFYs: 69-57, 2nd Place
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 Teixera: Out for the year with a broken leg. They shoot horses for that often.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 I saw a Teixeira shirt in the crowd (or "crowd") on TV last night. I had completely forgotten that he was a Brave. I had to check baseball-reference.So, who's on first? A-Rod or Bird?

He's been doing a decent job so far and, besides, I think the team took away ARod's glove and hid it.oe: ARod has played 6 games in the field this season, starting just 3 (2 at 3B, 1 at 1B) for a total of 27-1/3 innings. 2 assists, 1 error
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Nearly nine hours, 19 innings played, 19 runs allowed, and one rain delay into their rescheduled double-header, there appear to be more people on the field at YSIII than in the stands at this point (and it's not like you can blame the fans on this one).10-4 Toronto in the 8thGame 1 was 9-5 Jays in 11 innings.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 Texas and Minnesota NOT cooperating.
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted September 15, 2015 Posted September 15, 2015 So...I know I'm going to get blacked out of this Saturday's game against the Yanks (I HATE FOX!!!). That's no big deal, I'll listen to Howie. But, does anyone know what's happening with Friday night's game? This link says that SNY has the broadcast, but my TV listing (DirecTV) has boxing on SNY (but does show the post-game show afterwards). The game is on MLB Network, but I'm afraid I'll either get the alternate game there (Nats game) or the YES broadcast. MY Extra Innings menu shows Yankees @ Mets twice, but both are the YES broadcast. Is SNY showing Friday's game? If not, I guess I'll listen to Howie twice in 24 hours.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2015 Author Posted September 17, 2015 Blue Jays win tonight dropping the Yanx to 3.5 back.Yanx follow the series at CF with one in Toronto. Talk about six make or break games. After that it's 4 w/the ChiSox, 3 w/the BoSox, then finish with 3 @ BaltimoreNo more days off.Toronto hosts Balt (3), Yanx (3) and, after a day off, TB (3) before finishing up with a trip to Balt (4) and TB (3) Blue Jays magic number = 14. NHOP = .424
