Mets need go 165 the rest of the way to get Terry Collins to 400 wins as a skipper on the high Met seas. He is also on the verge of passing Joe Frazier in the win percentage column. And maybe his antecedent Jerry Manuel too if he hits that 400 mark.

Wins by a Mets Manager

What I take away from this is, its probably time to discuss Bobby V for enshrinement in the Mets HOF. To be alongside Gil and Davey as skippers in said HOF.

I agree. Bobby Valentine should be in the Mets Hall of Fame.

This year, Terry has also reached third place in the number of games managed.

Cubbage still has a chance to get out of that cellar.

When I get grant to do baseball research, I'm going to study how the crediting of managerial wins and losses would be affected if you gave the occasional W's and L's to the guy who takes over when the manager has been ejected, or is absent due to illness or family or somesuch.

Don Zimmer went 2115 while managing the Yankees during Joe Torre's recuperation from cancer. This would put him over 900 wins for his managerial career, but these games are all instead marked on Joe Torre's record.

Bartolo Colon led the National League this year in hits allowed by a pitcher, with 217. He's only the second Met to lead in this category. (The other was Frank Viola, with 259, in 1991.)

Posted

Had he got one more out, Colon would have had the second stingiest year with regard to walks of any Mets starter ever. The stingiest seems out of reach.

    Walks/9 by Mets' Starters
    1) Bret Saberhagen, 1994: 0.660
    2) Bret Saberhagen, 1993: 1.098
    3) Bartolo Colon, 2015: 1.110
    4) Rick Reed, 2001: 1.136
    5) Rick Reed, 1998: 1.229
    6) Ed Lynch, 1985: 1.272
    7) Bartolo Colon, 2014: 1.334
    8) Rick Reed, 1997: 1.339
    9) Eric Hillman, 1993: 1.490
    10) Tom Seaver, 1968: 1.554

And he led the league hands-down. The Mets have a very controlly staff.

That's a very surprising list. Except for Colon and Haren, those are all power pitchers. But walks per 9 is a traditionally a finesse pitcher category. This year in the NL, five of the top ten in walks per 9 were also in the top 10 in K's per 9. Ten years ago, there was only one pitcher on both lists (Pedro!). That used to be typical. Something's happened to the way this game is played.

Yes, but MLB is (practically) devoid of finesse pitchers these days.

I can't believe that we missed this, but on September 29, in Philadelphia, Lucas Duda became the 12th Mets player to reach 100 home runs. He's poised to move up another five notches next year, which will put him on the cusp of being in some pretty elite territory.

Wow. I was too busy counting Murphy's doubles.

Periods of Mets success are so much fun for everybody, except Ed Kranepool, sadly.

The team's 51 stolen bases ranks but 46th of the 54 Mets teams in history. All the teams below them are from the pre-Torre era, with the exception of the 1994 Mets who were the least-stealingest Mets in history, with 25.

The Mets 2015 stolen base leader is Curtis Granderson, with 11. The 1994 leader was John Cangelosi, with five. Roger Cendeo once stole four in a game for the Mets.
