Yankees License Plates Outnumber Mets Plates in New York State
March 18th, 2015 at 12:00 PM
By Michael Moraitis

It turns out the Department of Motor Vehicles in New York has a count of how many Yankees and New York Mets license plates are out there in the state and it's the Bronx Bombers who took home the higher total.

According to Katie Hinds of WNYC radio, the Yankees fans show their support more than Mets ones by 4:1:

No surprise there, as the Yankees have a longer tradition dating over a century, while the Mets came into existence in the 1960's. Not to mention, it also helps that the Yankees are one of the most successful sports franchises on the planet.

The real surprising thing is that with close to 20 million people in the state, only about 5,400 people care to show their pride in Yankees or Mets baseball on their license plate. I must admit, I am one of the people that don't have such a form of fandom. Hats off to those who do show their baseball pride on the back and front of their car.

Some say the Mets could takeover in New York with the potential of having a better team, but even if that dream does become reality, it never lasts long. The Yankees are by far more consistent year-to-year and spend the money to stay competitive, thus keeping their fans interested. If things turn around for the Mets, don't be shocked to see more Mets plates, though.

On any given year, investing in a Mets license plate could turn out to be a huge, embarrassing mistake. More often than not, you're doing OK without taking many risks if you purchase a Yankees license plate.

I have a Con Ed vanity plate! I wanted a Verizon one but
they're not due out until 2017.

For the first 30-35 years of their existence, the Mets were always more popular than the Yankees, save for the years roughly covering when the Mets wore their two-button jersey tops (The Youngblood Era).

It was either this piece or more stuff about whether the Mets are or aren't to blame for Wheeler's season ending injury.

If you're at loose ends, but really want to bring something to the table, get us some new posters before the season starts. God knows I'm not bringing them in.

Btw, is irish not posting recently?

Okay. Here's a poster. I'd normally post it in the Butterball thread but I'm not entirely sure whether the photo was shot in front of the Butterball Batting Eye or at the Payson Complex. Still, those are some mean dudes. Hide the women and children. The dude in the middle is so fast, he don't need no ride.

I looked for this poster at Gerry Cosby's. They didn't have it.

What a coincidence. I was there yesterday and also asked about that poster. The clerk said they're on re-order and that I should check back in a week.

Now that two of us have asked about it in the past 30 years, they will realize the pent-up demand and get them on the shelf pronto!

Are Darling and Ojeda barefoot? And does that make the bike go faster?

This, I believe, was the same spring the Mets starters decided to wear numbers in the 10s, until Sid backed out.

Irish is active on facebook.

This forum can be an intimidating place at times, as in too much argument by too few people.

I'm sure that by the time you two are done sorting this out, there'll be a Red Light Forum thread that one of youse will have started and the thread title will have my name in it.

So what kind of crap are you talking about that I start? What? You don't wanna read some news article that mentions Madoff and the Mets in the same sentence? What am I? Your scapegoat?

And mug shots of criminals wearing MFY hats generally outnumber mug shots of perps wearing Mets hats.
Same gene pool.
