Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 If d'Arnaud can't g'aud, and Recker has been hit by a double decker... and Plawecki is feeling blechy, and Monell has had a spell... then the Mets staff will be safe in the able hands of Xorge Carillo, the X-iest Met property since Xavier Nady.If that doesn't happen, then... good. Because I like Recker.[fimg=350:10e7fkz2]https://pbs.twimg.com/profile_images/494670132263006208/lKxDipnG_400x400.jpeg[/fimg:10e7fkz2] [fimg=350:10e7fkz2]http://metsmerizedonline.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/xorge-carrillo-500x275.jpg[/fimg:10e7fkz2]Xorge has a lot of hobbies, but screwing around is not one of them, and he put up a .701 OPS in Bingo. Not bad for a catcher. What do you think he'll give the Mets this year?
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted February 14, 2015 Posted February 14, 2015 When're you gonna stop making up these guys? I haven't heard of any of them yet.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 14, 2015 Author Posted February 14, 2015 Well, he's real and stuff. Drafted in 2011 in round 14 out of ASU (his forth time drafted!) and declared a steal by Baseball America (which still exists!), Xorge was immediately noticeable because of his X-ilicious name. Hits for a decent average but has been rather punchless for a catcher, despite a solid build (220 lbs.). He started slow as a pro but has rallied the last two years, improving steadily on offense and defense.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I still wish they had found a way to keep Juan Centeno for the emergency call-up role. But if they (shudder) have to go that far down in the organization, I think they'd look to acquire a veteran catcher to work with their young pitchers rather than bring up Carrillo. He stays in the minors this year.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Well, if you don't like Carillo, they have Monell and Plawecki too.The good news is that good teams tend to lose guys on waiver claims and Rule V drafts. Other good news is that Centeno is stuck behind two other veteran catchers in Milwaukee, so there's every chance he'll have to pass through waivers again.Bad news is that the Mets are great. So they'll be among the last teams with a chance to (re-)claim him.Other good news, though: being great total has a world of upside.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 I think he's suggesting that, as far as taking away catching ABs this season from d'Arnaud or Recker (or Plawecki), Carrillo is but a minor threat.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 15, 2015 Author Posted February 15, 2015 Which beats him getting all those at bats and providing a steady diet of nothing.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 15, 2015 Posted February 15, 2015 Well in fairness, some of these guys (this one for instance) aren't even on the 40-man.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2015 Posted February 21, 2015 I predict that Keith, despite his Spanish heritage, will only get the opportunity to mispronounce this guy's name during ST games.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 22, 2015 Author Posted February 22, 2015 I assume that X is sounded as an H, rather than a Z.
