Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 After two rounds of balloting, the twitters are announcing that Manfred is the man.I for one welcome our new alien overlord.
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 I predict that we'll see advertising on baseball uniforms under the next commish. And if so, expect the Wilpons to go all in on that one, with a Pepsi or Citi logo as big as the numbers on the back of the uni. And two new expansion teams.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Reports are claiming that the vote was unanimous. Which isn't to say that the initial vote was unanimous.Advertising on unis? ... I think it's going to be a hot topic in all U.S. sports going forward. The NBA has essentially admitted that it's only a matter of time with them; the WNBA already does. I'm seeing some ads on exhibition football jerseys although I don't know if they're wearing those during games (cuz if you catch me watching pre-season football, please beat me with a blunt object) or if those are just for the film shots from training camp.I don't think expansion is on anyone's agenda in MLB right now.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 We're moving slowly toward sponsorship on unis. Already, the MFYs have sponsors for everything:"The next pitch is brought to you by Wilson Tar Company"."This trip to the mound is brought to you by Travelocity"."This stepping out and scratching is brought to you by Sam's Jock Itch Powder".The possibilities haven't been fully explored yet. But eventually, ads on the unis will be here. When they go on the road, will they advertise things in the city they're visiting?I can hardly wait to find out.Later

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Not that I'll love it, but as a footyboy, I'm long since past getting my dudgeon all high over stuff like uni ads.Oversaw the BioGenesis-investigation shenaniganery, and negotiated the last three labor deals. So, if nothing else, he's great at getting the players to roll over and smile after he's helped frig 'em with a poker (as opposed to Werner or another of the other owner-backed options, who probably would have been more of the throw-money-at-them-afterward stripe).
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 I'm still a little flubbered that Sandy wasn't a finalist. I thought for sure that fixing the Mets was his favor to the league and the big chair was to be his payback. Shows what I know.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 If you enjoy soccer, motorsports, or the WBNA ads on unis likely does not bother you much.I can see every MLB team with a well paid for patch or two on it.... Mo money...
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 I'm not sure why this became the topic of the thread.

Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Chico is serving double-life sentences. Keep up!
batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 But the company still exists.http://www.chicobailbonds.com/
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted August 14, 2014 Posted August 14, 2014 Runnin' it from the inside, I guess

And it's not like there have been clear winners and losers in the process, both sides seem to be happy with the results. If it had been Werner or [the other guy] many would have seen that as a sign that there were enough owners looking to take a harder line with the union, like back twenty years ago when they still harbored this fantasy of either breaking the union entirely or at least beating them down so hard that they'll agree to an across-the-board hard cap.
