ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Taijuan Walker is top prospect who had arm surgery last season. This may be a showcase outing for him...
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 NY Mets at SeattleWhen: 3:40 PM ET, Wednesday, July 23, 2014Where: Safeco Field, Seattle, WashingtonSportsDirect Inc.Bartolo Colon looks to continue his mastery of the Seattle Mariners at Safeco Field when the New York Mets close a three-game set on Wednesday afternoon. The 41-year-old right-hander is 12-1 with a 2.10 ERA in 14 career starts at the ballpark that opened in 1999 while repeatedly dominating Seattle hitters. New York halted a three-game losing streak with Tuesdays victory after Seattle recorded a 5-2 win in Mondays series opener. The Mariners havent been part of the postseason field since 2001 but currently own the American Leagues second wild-card spot 100 games in. Seattle had just five hits in Tuesdays 3-1 loss and placed only four runners in scoring position, failing to get a hit in any of those instances. New York third baseman David Wright was hitless in three at-bats on Tuesday and is just 5-for-27 over his last seven games following a 4-for-4 outing July 11 against the Miami Marlins.TV: 3:40 p.m. ET, SNY (New York), ROOT (Seattle)PITCHING MATCHUP: Mets RH Bartolo Colon (8-8, 4.12 ERA) vs. Mariners RH Taijuan Walker (1-1, 3.60)Colon has enjoyed a lot of success against Seattle while serving stints with six different American League clubs and is 19-12 with a 3.88 ERA in 36 career starts against the Mariners. He is currently in a funk and has given up 17 earned runs in 26 innings while going 0-3 over his last four starts. Colon has walked two or fewer batters in each of his last eight outings.Walker is being recalled from Triple-A Tacoma to make his third start of the season. He defeated the Houston Astros on June 30 and lost to the Chicago White Sox on July 6 before being optioned back to the minors. The 21-year-old Walker has been mentioned as a possible target of the Tampa Bay Rays should that franchise decide to deal ace David Price.WALK-OFFS: 1. New York RF Curtis Granderson (illness) could return for the finale, while OF Chris Young (calf) is questionable.2. Seattle 2B Robinson Cano is 6-for-15 with two doubles and a homer against Colon.3. Mets 1B Lucas Duda went 2-for-4 with a homer Tuesday and is 8-for-23 during a six-game hitting streak.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 This will be Walker's 3rd start this season to go along with the 3 he made last year. The two he made just prior to the ASB resulted in 3 ER over 5 IP vs Houston, and then 1 ER over 4 in a loss to the Chisox. He's been one of the top pitching prospects in all of baseball for the last three years now.

With the deadline near, this is definitely a showcase outing for him.But let's win this one for the Mets' sake. I'm a Colonist! How 'bout you?!

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 I don't feel like we're playing our very best at the moment but to say this is a Big Game for the SHaMs is to insult all other Big Games. Gotta get right before a 4-gamer in Beertown.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Guy wants to show his game even as he starts every third or fourth game, and that means being over-aggressive. Nonetheless, safe and plated Dmurphy's double. Mets lead by a run.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Got the strikeout shoes on today. Not Colon, but the rest of the team does.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Mariners still trying to kill Tejada. beaned this time, out of the game. walked off under own power though. Concussion test time.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Where did Tejada get hit? Gameday just says he was hit by the pitch, then said Campbell is pinch-running.Do we have a back-up shortstop?
Guest d'Kong76 Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Kinda the forehead of his batting helmet, scary for a short while but he left under his own power.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Looks like Campbell is at short.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Colon outs so far:6 fly balls5 ground balls (2 to Tejada at shortstop)4 strikeouts
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Bases loaded, no outs .... Let's give Bartolo some breathing room!
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Seems a little odd to be pulling Walker when he's only given up a run and two hits, but looks like he's closing in on 100 pitches.
Guest Mets Guy in Michigan Guests Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 We need someone to leak that Chris Young is about to be released again. Seems he picks up his game -- and that lame play to third needed some pick up.But Lagares sacs in a run!

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 23, 2014 Posted July 23, 2014 Have only seen parts of this game. Saw the first inning, so I don't think I've missed much. And I just realized what's going on here.
