One would expect nothing less from someone who spends so much time wanking and making the fingers-rubbed-together money gesture.

Now that the most recent monkey is off the team's back, I have to say, I couldn't help linking their play this last week to "Real New Yorkers" hullabaloo, as little sense as it that might make.

It was an embarrassing thing, it really was. The Mets don't need me to tell them I like them. Obviously they think I'm some kind of tool.

They gotta stop that stuff, they never learn.

Yesterday I was asked to sign a Mother's Day card for Michelle Obama. I'm telling you, "' 'Sign' this stupid made-for-social-media thing which then gets launched from your account out to your friends" is absolutely the current wave of marketing.

Sure, but you didn't get in a contest for two tickets to the state of the union address or anything for that did you?

I still don't get why a silly over-enthusiastic contest is getting so much coverage. Especially by media guys who are going to spend the next four days with their own interpretation of "real New Yorker/real New York Team" etc.

I suspect the desire for more brand loyalty is formed out of companies increasing need to separate themselves from their competitors when they generally just blend in. Watch NBC or Fox? how about I DVR whatever and watch the best shows? Post or the Daily News? How about I just read the articles that interest me from each online? Toyota or Ford? How about I read reviews and focus on the features that _I_ prioritize and make an informed decision?

Of course, companies seem not to reward loyalty anyway. My 'loyalty' rate for car insurance was still more than switching. Fios and Optimum give you gifts for signing up new, but nothing for sticking with them. Most of the cellphone companies discount the phone ($400+ off) if you re-commit to a new contract, but the 'loyalty' reward for Verizon is $50 for the primary phone on the account towards a new phone.

I'm subjected to way more offensive marketing schemes on a daily basis and on SNY commercial breaks than a silly "please say you like us!" call to arms.

When are they going to notify me that I've won the tickets? I have flight or train reservations to make.

Well in an odd way, it is pretty much expected out of anything trying to sell you products, even how and where you consume information. I think its the expectations of certain forms of entertainment and certain positions of authority (i.e. Michelle Obama tweeting #BringBackOurGirls) to be above, or evolved to a point where they don't need such unprofessional gimmicks and come ons that one would expect a minor league team to do, or something that is targeting a younger audience (i.e. I could see this being something a competitor to the WWE doing to try and cut into the WWE's teen-college aged audiences).

I get I would say several (3 or more) emails a day from the Mets, I don't unsubscribe as I have gotten some good ticket deals from them.
