RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Adam Rubin is pointing out that the Mets are facing a 40-man roster crunch.Eight players have to be moved from the 60-day disabled list soon: Ike Davis, Josh Edgin, Matt Harvey, Jeremy Hefner, Jenrry Mejia, Bobby Parnell, Scott Rice and Johan Santana. The team also has only eight free agents: David Aardsma, Tim Byrdak, Pedro Feliciano, Frank Francisco, Aaron Harang, LaTroy Hawkins, Daisuke Matsuzaka and Santana. In addition, the team has several players that they have to add to the 40-man roster or be lost in the Rule 5 draft: Jacob deGrom, Steven Matz, Darin Gorski, Jeff Walters and Cory Vaughn among others.Rubin lists Jordany Valdespin, Scott Atchison, Greg Burke, Robert Carson, Sean Henn, Zach Lutz, Mike Baxter, Andrew Brown and Kirk Nieuwenhuis as the ones most likely to go.So . . . who should stay and who should go? Who won't be on the 40-man roster by the time of the Rule 5 draft in December?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I'm not quite sure how to vote, as there are free agents on the list who, if they get major league deals, certainly won't do so before the Rule V draft.Valdespin, Atchy, Burke, Carson, Henn --- these guys will certainly be transferred soon. Lutz and Baxter are on the bubble too. Maybe Brownie. I'd probably draft at least one of them, though, probably Lutz.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 All teams have a 40-man roster crunch after the WS is complete, just to be clear.I think it probably is the end for Niuewenhuis, Carson, Burke, Byrdak, Feliciano, Valdespin, Henn for starters. Edgin? Who knows. Has not made the kind of progress they'd hoped.

They can probably re-sign Feliciano. Henn has no real track record of success. Carson is a AAA pitcher at best. There are no lefty relievers ready in the minors. So Josh stays by default. Maybe with Scott Rice.Later
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 Let's be certain. There's nothing to vote on with regard the likes of Byrd and Felciano. They're free agents, not gonna be on the roster, and during a recent survey, none out of none teams stated that they would resign them to a major league deal.
Lefty Specialist Old-Timey Member Posted October 14, 2013 Posted October 14, 2013 I think Jordany Valdespin needs the Chapter VIII solution.
