Strikes me as one of those guys Paul DePodesta thinks of as a stealth prospect, a la Juan Lagares, Climbing through the system with minimum fanfare but has the defensive skills to land now, but brass thinks the offensive ability is in there, if not yet discovered after a year and a half at Bingy.

Probably isn't ready (no AAA), but probably as worthy of hope for improvement as Tejada.

Turned 22 last month. Played 133 games at Binghamton. .263/.323/.340 with 14 doubles, 4 triples, 4 homers in 486 plate appearances. Stole 12 bases, caught 7 times.

If he truly possesses "an extraordinary glove" as the linked piece claims and turns out to be no worse than a contact hitter with low-Ks and little power, it's not like he would be a step down from Tejada.

Huff was always huge in Venezuela.
From the way I hear it the guy couldn't eat dinner at a sidewalk cafe in Caracas without being constantly interrupted by fans.

The median age of ballplayers in AA is 24. The average age of ballplayers in the Eastern League is 24.2 This guy just turned 22 on August 11, so he played most of the season as a 21-year-old. He's been young for his leagues most of his career. And of course, he's not in AA anymore, as he's graduated to the big leagues. So whatever his issues, being too old certainly isn't one of them.

How about a longshot to get enough MLB service time to be vested.

I don't see anything on his minor league lines hitting wise to show hit might hit enough to stick for much more than a cup of coffee at some point.

Maybe my brain is addled by dreaming of Troy Tulowitzki, a real MLB all-star! to come and play SS for the Mets..

Bud Harrelson never hit more than .251 in the minors, and played 16 years in the majors, hitting under .250.
If Tovar can field as well as some of those reports tell us, he could have a decent major league career.
At shortstop, if you can pick it, you will play.
