Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Don't look now, but Washington suddenly has a shot at a playoff slot.Sure it'd been a longshot, but really this season came to an end four weeks ago this evening, when after a big win in Game 1 of a day-night DH at Washington, we lost Harvelous' game 2 when we scored only 1 run, Muffy gave it away on an error, and Ryan Zimmerman walked-off Hawkins.I beleive we were just a game behind the Nats going into that one, but we followed that with a listless effort Saturday and Torres got smoked Sunday and that was that for the Mets season. The Nats have since been off to the races as what once was a 1-game lead over us is today 7.5 and the Nats are a long-but-not-insurmountable 6.5 out of a wild card spot.It almost could have been us but for the Wright & Harvey & Parnell & Hef injuries, the fact that we can't hit most nights, etc etc. But, the Nats were much the same, once upon a time.Gee vs. Zimmermann
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Jayson Werth, in particular, has been ridicul-hot for the Nats: .412/.505/.671 in August
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Murphy hit two HRs off Zimmermann in G1 of that doubleheader. JCL was right about G1 of being the apex of the Mets hopes for contention. Crap, that means that G2 will be shown on MASN all winter. The infamous game from last year where someone named "Valdespin" hit a clutch HR and then booted a groundball in extras was just about shown on a loop. I'll be there tonight.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Ex-Nat Michael Morse gets re-routed back east (to Baltimore) just in time for the other NYC-v-mid-Atlantic showdown this weekend. Not having near the year he had last season. Be nice if he goes on a Soriano-like HR binge this weekend.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 It's both a little early (it's been three games) and a little late (the regular season is over like tomorrow) to cry out that somebody's rotting.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Wow. Did not see that 3rd strike call coming. METS WIN! GJ Geericehawk. Very good game.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 30, 2013 Posted August 30, 2013 Found myself on the edge of the seat sweating out and wanting this win than any other recent game. For a while I thought that Lombardozzi HR was going to be the death rattle.A series sweep this weekend would essentially kill the Nats post-season hopes and I'll take Wheeler/Niese over Haren/Ohlendorf.And we got a break on that 3rd strike. 1st one was borderline, 3rd one was out beyond that.
