Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 The sun has set on the Buck and Byrd era, but not on the 2013 Mets? Not yet.Young, lfMurphy, 2bBrown, rfDavis, 1bFlores, 3bLagares, cfd'Arnaud, cQuintanilla, ssNiese, spIn the insult-to-injury department, tonight is T-Shirt Tuesday, where every fan gets a tee-shirt dedicated to that great Met, Marlon Byrd.Matt den Dekker in uniform. Excited to see if he gets the lower-case "d" treatment of Travis d'Arnaud.I guess I would feel better if Terry ever paused before writing "Quintanilla" on his lineup card.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Tough road ahead. And that's just from now til the end of the season. Brown batting third. I like.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I like Andrew batting third.[bigpurple:30bjnelc]LETS GO METS![/bigpurple:30bjnelc]
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 Buck getting traded the morning of his own tee-shirt day doesn't quite measure up, as far as luckless tributes go, to John Franco getting tossed from the game on John Franco Day, but it's only a matter of degrees.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Radios like 15 seconds faster than the TV. That's too much. I'll have to say chow 4 now Howie. It's not you're too fast. They're too slow. Yet they win.Nice catch Q.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I like the way that Gary takes scoring decisions he disagrees about so personally.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Niese screws up to the Mets benefit.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 That could have been messy. And Niese looked pissed that he was being held after he crossed the plate. He was intent on scoring. Hey, the way we score runs I don't blame him.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 I've had enough of the Phils booth. Going back to radio. I'll deal with the delay. Yesterday the delay was perfect. I'd hear what happened, look at the TV and it was just happening.OOO, I hear this was a good play by Q.It was.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 d' nice sac fly scores d' second run. I thought this was gonna be another case of stranditis.2-0

If he had realized Niese was coming, he would have tagged him out.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 That throw is what (one of many actually) is so frustrating about Roger Bernadina. The guy has speed, power, is a great athlete and particularly so in the field but is also so unpolished and unreliable that you can't depend on him.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Niese knows what needs to be none. Clears the bases with a double to left center, perfectly placed.5-0
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Somebody on this team can hit with RiSP!!
RealityChuck Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Let Niese play right field when he's not on the mound!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Thats twice in two or three days. If Laggy cant catch up to warning track drives then he should rethink playing ridiculously in the way he does. I'll give him three before I will say that, although I just said it.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Hey everybody. A round of applause please for Jonathan Niese who will attempt to pitch a complete game shutout.LETS GO NIESE!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 And it goes down as it was drawn up.Cue Justin Turner Overdrive.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 (edited) Evidently, Buck and Byrd were holding the offense back. Evidently. Now put him in some styrofoam packing peanuts before someone accidentally creampies or high-fives him all the way to Dr. Andrews. Edited August 27, 2013 by Guest
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Thank you Mr. Niese. I needed that.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Nicely done. I watched the last 3-4 innings and saw the big hit.

As long as we're not in a situation that calls for preventing XBHs at all costs, I'll take him saving 7 or 8 singles for every double he might give up - and I bet the ratio is even better than that. Like you said, that's maybe the 2nd ball we've seen hit over his head that he couldn't get to since his call-up and, in both cases IIRC, he just missed them even though they landed on the track. I'm fine with that track record (no pun intended).
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 27, 2013 Posted August 27, 2013 Yes that ball that Lagares missed was trouble off the bat and he damn near made a great play. It was hit hard and cming down fast.Fun nite at the ballyard with some family & friends visiting from out of town, and my first win since the first weekend of the season.N4N, but encouraging to see Niese have such a swell night, it's been awhile for him too.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 27, 2013 Author Posted August 27, 2013 I have no problem with Laggy not getting to an occasional ball that somebody absolutely creams if he keeps cheapies from dropping in front. Pitchers do better things if their defense forces batters to earn their hits.

Don't you mean "niesely done"?And i concur on Legares; taking away those dunkers stops big innings from happening, and there are a heckuva lot more of those than missed drives to the track. He has the speed and instincts to get most stuff over his head; if a guy really crushes one in the opposite alley that he can't reach, it's both rare and the pitcher's fault. He's still going to have to hit either harder or more often (or take a fucking walk once in a while) to be a good major league player, but you can't fault his defense. And even with this makeshift AAA lineup, Duda still can't get any ABs? Does Davis have nude shots of Terry's wife or something?
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
