Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 With 2 outs and Heyward up, it's Warthen, not Collins.Gary and Keith approve, vocally, as they do of Wheeler's fastball, location, pitch sequencing, body language, necklace choice, beard grooming, and scent.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted August 20, 2013 Author Posted August 20, 2013 Eric Young Jr really one has one tool, but it's a good one at least.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Well, yes, he didn't finish the inning. But, hey, he did throw a lot of pitches, so... experience points, right?
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 So Wheeler goes 6.2, 114 pitches. Good solid job and surely a step in the right direction but I, personally, am not salivating over it. Too many pitches.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Jeeze. From 4-0 to 4-3 in a snap. W/o a homer.Torres =fail tonight. But he can't always be on.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Before that AB started I had already resigned myself to being satisfied with anything that wasn't a Grand Slam.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Well, Rice coming in two batters too late here.It seemed clear all night that Wheeler doesn't have an answer for Heyward.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 That play gave me the impression that Mets defenders think everybody's a lot taller than they actually are.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Well that appearance by Torres sucked some d'Ick.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 I'm just glad that last out didn't involve any throwing. They don't seem to be very good at that.

Only in power is he significantly below ML average.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Definitely calling the low strike tonight.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 "Very good glove" might be overstating it a bit on Young Mr. Young."Athletic, and great at catching balls on the run; struggles with virtually every other aspect of outfield defense" might be a little more on-point.Also, for a guy who has VERY little power compared to his peers, he walks at a below-average career rate (8.7% career). Also also, he's a well-below-average major-league hitter for said career.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Young looks like he's never seen a sinker before.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 That K for the second out is negatively huge. Heck of a job, Youngie!

Plus, he's been giving a superlative effort, his flailing at the sinker just now notwithstanding.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 (edited) Oh, I like the guy plenty, and enjoy when he does well. It's just that... that's not that often, historically. Edited August 20, 2013 by Guest
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Bases blued up for the Byrdman. Can he do it again?
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Luis Ayala sighting? Good Lord, he looks different in navy.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Damn even one run there woulda been big.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 That bobblehead(s) looks pretty damn good.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 The ol' 3-4-1. Gotta like that.Thank you, god of catcherspeed.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Whewow-a most interesting play. Murphy all over it after Ike stabs it out of the sky.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted August 20, 2013 Posted August 20, 2013 Much maligned Eric Young playing at some normal depth on that last out.
