Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 The Mets, winners of 15 of their last 24, go for the sweep in a day game vs. the San Francisco Giants. Game time is 3:45 EDT, with Zach Wheeler facing the team that traded him away nearly two years ago.Today's Giants starter is Matt Cain, who beaned David Wright in 2009 and deserves to suffer for it until the end of his days. Cain is having the sort of year I wish on him every year - 5-5, 4.85, and an unsightly ERA+ of 70.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 We haven't swept the Giants since 1994, says Garr. Thats anti-amazin'.

Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Young makes stuff happen. Walk, SB,error on C, gets to third base. No out.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 (edited) And Muffy floats a liner to right center for a single and we actually plate a run. Ya know, one of those runs where you get a guy in scoring position and no outs. One of those kinda runs. Remember them? Edited July 10, 2013 by Guest
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 So, like, Eric Young has totally failed in the stinking department.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Not getting with the suck agenda at all, Ike Davis walks and raises his post-recall OBP to, like, .500.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Score a bunch off Cain early. Go Buck.

smg58 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 You get the sense that the Giants saw something in Cain's mechanics that they really didn't like. There's an MRI in his immediate future.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 It's also not like this was the first bad start from Cain this season.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Wheeler goes 1-2-3. Feeling good so far.

He started out by drawing a lot of walks, and eventually he got better pitches to hit and the home runs followed. I'm encouraged.

seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Actual conversation I had with myself on Monday morning: "Well, Cain's facing us this week, so I'm not putting him in my lineup." SCORE.

Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Come on men, Kickham when they're down.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Word of Wheeler being a bust = prematureQuintanilla = major league shortstop.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 OH Q! awesome play. Two guys I dont miss in the least. Tejeda and Duda.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Best sign from Wheeler today (in addition to the whole shut-out/one-hitter thing): only 50 pitches through 4 innings.12.5 per/inning is a good rate from anyone much less a rookie who's been taking a lot more than that over his short run.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 A hit for Ike off an LHP - even if not a pretty one.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Sheesh. Suddenly, we have two catchers who are hitting.
Zach Thornton Syracuse Mets - AAA LHP On Sunday, the southpaw tossed five shutout innings as the bulk pitcher. He gave up 2 hits, walked 2 and had 5 strikeouts. Explore Zach Thornton News >
