I think Ike's struggles have become the ultimate elephant in the room. Almost nobody is performing the way they can.

Wright, Murphy. Duda probably. That'd almost be okay if everyone else was merely mediocre. But Tejada and Davis are abysmal, and Buck and Byrd are mostly bad with good days.

This was like those reg season games we seemed to have against the Yanx all the time there for a while, where all the walks, all the cheesy hits, and the big error would all get bunched up in the same inning to form a deficit the Mets would never recover from. I mean, yeah, we didn't hit and deserved to lose, but it's not like they hit either. We just put all our screw-ups in a six-batter sequence.

This was expected. The results, anyway. How they'd get to the bottom was arguable. I mean, you'd think that Ike would have two or three more HR's, but instead, Buck's got Ike's missing HR's. But that they'd be pathetic should not surprise anyone.

Is it time to put Niese on the 15 day DL before he hurts himself? and then give him a "rehab" trip to St Lucie to work on his control issues? Something just ain't right with Jon...

No, because (as far as we know anyway) he's not hurt.
Yeah, the 1st inning yesterday was ugly as hell, but he could easily have slid away from that scoreless and bounced back nicely the rest of the way, He was even lobbying for one more inning despite the high pitch count. So, in all, he's allowed just 2 earned runs on 11 hits over his last 13/1 IP.
Not exactly what I'd term "ain't right" or something I'd go inventing injuries over.

Zvon: Cut and paste that stuff into a new thread if you want to discuss the '73 NLCS.
This thread is soon to be filed away into the archives anyway so you're just going to lose it again. Plus, last time I checked, we're no where near our quota of threads for the month so it's OK to start a new one.

Niese expects rest to ease shoulder soreness
By Anthony DiComo / MLB.com | 5/30/2013 6:55 P.M. ET

NEW YORK -- Following each of his last four starts, Mets left-hander Jon Niese experienced abnormal soreness in his left shoulder, which prevented him from recovering like he wanted.

Niese felt sore enough that there was "no way" he could throw his routine between-starts bullpen session. A subsequent MRI exam revealed a bout of left shoulder tendinitis, which Niese hopes will sideline him for only one turn through the rotation.
