Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 St. Louis CardinalsFirst, the Molina family,Their big league catchers number three,But we're concerned with Yadier.Though some may say he's only fair,His arm is strong, pitch calling clever,LaRussa says "best catcher ever."At first base, Who? It's Allen Craig,Scouting reports on him are vague,He is not hitting what they'd like,But, come to think: neither is Ike.And if you need some Social Work, heHas a degree from UC Berkely.(Update on Craig: he's gotten hot.Update on Ike: Well, he has not.)Matt Carpenter is not the pitcher,At second base, could be a fixture. And though his fielding's never boring,He could well lead the league in scoring.Since Rafael Furcal is out,Shortstop position is in doubt.Right now it's Kozma, day to day,They're still not sure that he can play.If either keystone fails, there's alsoAnother choice: that's Dan Descalso.Patrolling third is David Freese,He's got the skids, they've got the grease.Matheny says of his selection,"Not heading in a good direction."So, if not David, who? Oh, my --It might be our old buddy Ty1All of this construction mayChange on any given day.Shuffle up, or start from scratch.St. Louis infield: mix and match. In left field is Matt Holliday,The center fielder is Jon Jay,In right field -- well, you know the man,Our old Met pal, Senor Beltran. No sign of weakness here revealed,They all can hit, they all can field. And if their outfield makes you curse,Just hold your tongue: the rest is worse. And worse, and worse again by half --Referring to the pitching staff.Basically, all they do is win,Particularly Mr. Lynn.Jaime Garcia's worth your best look,Same can be said for Jacob Westbrook.Adam Wainwright is a killer,So's their fifth guy, Shelby Miller.Their bullpen needs some analyzing,But lately it's been stablizing. When closing situation beckons,There's Edward, last of the Mujicans.Formidable! But you can keep 'em,Prediction here: The Mets will sweep 'em.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 7, 2013 Posted May 7, 2013 I don't think it's possible for Mike Francessa to have as many Mickey Mantles as I had 1975 Jack Heidemanns. I got this card in every pack!
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted May 8, 2013 Author Posted May 8, 2013 Apologies for posting this too early -- I didn't actually mean to post it, I was just trying to make sure I got it done in time, because things are going wild at Opus 40.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Just a couple quick notes on this series (and to bump this KTE back up top):- Games times are at 7:05 EDT on Monday (for TV purposes which also means it's an ESPN game for some of youse outta-towners) but back to 8:15 on both Tuesday & Wednesday and then a 1:45 starting time on ThursdayMon: Hefner vs LynnTues: Gee vs GastWed: Marcum vs MillerThurs: Niese vs WainwrightLance Lynn is the reliever turned starter for this season who's currently 5-1 with a 2.71 ERA and 1.05 WHiP in 7 startsJohn Gast (24) will be making his major league debut. He was 3-1; 1.16; 1.06 over 7 starts with AAA Memphis Shelby Miller [5-2; 1.58; 0.88] & Adam Wainwright [5-2; 2.30; 0.99] are the two coming off back-to-back one-hitters vs Colorado this past weekend. The Rox at one point went 50 ABs between base hits.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 Three in a row for Kolb. This Card card lacks the Soviet realism qualities of his others, though.I'd like to retroactivel come out in support of the Garrett trade.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 A thing of beauty, Mole.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "Shelby Miller" puts me in mind of southern gallant who's been paying calls on a certain virtuous young woman. He's handsome but a little too full of himself. And the young woman's maiden aunt is all harumphy. "I don't like that young Mr. Miller," she says with her perpetually consternated brow. "Sure and all, he plays the perfect gentleman, but there's just a way about him that rubs me right wrong."
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "Oh, I daren't agree, Marva. The young man accompanied me on last eve's cakewalk, and he had not a whiff of the rogue about him... unlike that silver-tongued Lance Lynn, Esquire."
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "You can't let any of these young men make a rube out of you, Edna Mae. A lady can't be too careful. Honest men like your John Mabry are not easy to come by these days. Lemonade?"
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 "Speaking of 'tart and fruity,' that highstocking Jon Jay is quite the wasp-worded little dandy, is he not?""Oh, Martha, you're incorrigible, like that Mohican-wearing native fellow with the painted neck."
