RHP Jeremy Hefner is placed on the DL, retroactive to Aug. 10, with a partially torn MCL in his right elbow.

Mejia has bone spurs. We'd known he had them and was delaying surgery until the off season.
When he walked off the mound the other day, I feared it might have been worse than that.
The official word is just that - bone spurs.

That was my sigh of relief you just heard.

That's good to hear.

Where did you hear that MFS? I checked google news and didn't see any word of him getting checked out.

I think it was Ed Coleman on one of the pre-game "Injury reports" on WFAN.

It's here, and in a few places (if not couched as a result of a specific medical exam). He was pitching with the spurs to begin with, with an as-long-as-you-can-tolerate-it understanding and offseason surgery in the offing.

Pitching with the bone spurs gave Mejia the opportunity to put himself squarely back on the Mets radar. And if it's reached the point where it's no longer worth the risk to send him out there, then so be it. Get the surgery done, and get him to 100% by spring training.

Hefner's status is less good; the docs recommended TJS. Calling it a shitty break for him and the team would be an understatement.

He'll have Rice with that hernia. Scottso out for surgery rest of year, it is reported.

Down to three Mets who have been on roster since OD, though I'm not sure if the durable lefty will be moved to DL given that it's September: Murphy, Gee, Hawkins.

Damn - I just started a thread on the topic. I'll take it down.

I guess that explains the Hennepin.

Henn, Feliciano, Byrdak. None may be as effective as Rice has been (in 2013) but we are certainly armed from the left side for the vital remaining two dozen games.

Byrdak clearly sabotaged the guy.

I think about fringey guys like Rice a lot. Whether they get hurt while in the bigs or on the minors can make all the difference to them.

Getting paid like a big leaguer while you're recovering must make rehabbing all the less terrifying. You rehab in the minors, not only are you getting paid in peanuts, but a team is more than happy to cut you free as soon as your recovery is arguably complete. You rush back under pressure and get doubly screwd for the effort.

Rice's emergence is the feelgood story of the year, at least until it's revealed it was juicing that gave him the little something extra on his fastball that he needed to break through.

Is David Wright traveling with the team or suiting up for games and staying with troops?

I think he's wither already back in NY now, or is about to be, on account of there aren't any more games in Florida and also fewer folks hanging around there now to work him out or pitch to him.
