Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 OK, compiling the Firsts Quiz was a lot of fun, so I thought I'd assemble a 'Lasts' quiz. Of course, some are permanent lasts, provided the Polo Grounds is not rebuilt, and others are really just most recent, subject to change. I'll leave this up for a few hours. Thanks once again to the definitive UMDB not only for answers, but for inspiring questions as I browsed the site. Ben Grimm, you are the man-like-creature.Last Met to homer at the Polo Grounds - Jim HickmanLast Met to get a hit in the post-season - Endy ChavezLast Mets pitcher to record a regular season win vs. the Chicago White Sox - Pedro AstacioLast Met to play 162 games in a regular season - John Olerud (1999)Last Met batter to lead the NL in strikeouts - Dave Kingman (1982)Last instance of a current (at the time) or future Hall-of-Famer officially wearing a Mets uniform (this is not a trick question, like 'Well, Mike Piazza is a future HOFer.' This guy is in.) - Rickey Henderson (coach, 2007)Last player the Mets received in a trade with the Yankees - Felix Heredia (for Mike Stanton)Last Met to homer against the Montreal Expos (hint he was the catcher) - Todd ZeileLast player other than Wright or Reyes to lead the Mets in hits for a season- Angel Pagan (2010)Last Met to pitch a post-season Complete Game - Mike HamptonLast Met to lead the NL in doubles - Gregg Jefferies (40 in 1990)Last Met to have a slugging percentage over .600 for a season - Mike Piazza (.614 in 2000)
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Mike Hampton was the last Met to pitch a postseason complete game.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Hampton is correct. Nice, Gwreck.1 down, 11 to go.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Is this one answer per person? Or do you want a whole list of guesses for each question?
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 last guy from the Yankees.. David Justice?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Last Met to homer at the Polo Grounds--HickmanLast Met to get a hit in the post-season --ReyesLast Mets pitcher to record a regular season win vs. the Chicago White Sox --Rusch
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I think if folks answer one or a few we'll get more participation, so let's do that.Justice is not correct, nor are Reyes and Rusch. Hickman is! One Pool-buck for JCL. No negative points, here. I'm not a harsh schoolmarm like Edgy.Gwreck - 1JCL - 1
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Last win vs. the White Sox was Pedro Astacio.Last player acquired from the Yankees was Felix Heredia. Last Met to play 162 games was John Olerud. (That's a trick question, right? There were 163 games in 1999 but he played 162 of them).
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Gwreck on a Gwroll with three more. Oly didn't play them all, but he did hit the magic 162 in 1999.Gwreck - 4JCL - 1

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Oops, I posted the above before I saw the reply that said we should only guess one at a time. Sorry.

Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 No problem - as many guesses as you like is fine.Rickey is correct - he was a coach in 2007 (plus you got Olerud as well)Gwreck - 4JCL - 1Ben Grimm - 1

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Last Met to homer against the Montreal Expos (hint he was the catcher)--This is a trick Q too: Wasn't it Zeile?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Last hit in the postseason was Jose Valentin.Chavez single, Valentin single, Floyd strikeout, Reyes (I forget what he did), LoDuca walked.

Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 The last Met to lead team in hits (not Reyes or Wright) is also a trick question. Didn't Angel Pagan have more hits than David during one of the years that Reyes was hurt?
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Yup - in 2010 Pagan had 168, Wright 166, Reyes 159.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 Zeile is also correct - that was his one game back behind the plate.Last postseason hit is not quite correct.Gwreck - 5JCL - 2Ben Grimm - 1
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 I am positive about how that inning unfolded. Unless I reversed the order that Valentin and Chavez batted.
Guest Swan Swan H Guests Posted October 15, 2012 Posted October 15, 2012 That's it. Valentin (1b) - Chavez (1b) - Floyd (K) -Reyes (8) - LoDuca (BB).Gwreck - 6JCL - 2Ben Grimm - 1
