I think they're counting on Turner not being out too long and will simply fake it until he gets there or bring up Quintanilla if the Redhead's going to take longer than expected. Larger point being that you NEED a backup SS no matter how your top guy is hitting - and at the moment our guy ain't hitting. You can get away without one for a short span at best.

I'd be shocked if Valdespin sees even an inning at SS. They'll stick Dabid there first.

They may be thinking that Tejada (who has as many hits on the season as Mike Trout) will just play every game for at least a week and if he gets hurt or Turner isn't ready to be activated they'll reach for someone else.

Really? You have a source?

That's two backup infielders down. Who do reports have replacing them? Hicks 'n'... who?

I get half of that: Nieuwie makes the team and Valdy becomes and infielder again, but Crane Pool Central already had Lutz skating onto the roster. Who'm I missing on offense?

Oh, right, I guess we're expecting Murph to make it after all. Brace for an update.

I'd be shocked if Valdespin sees even an inning at SS. They'll stick Dabid there first.

Wasn't too long ago that speculation had Tejada not even making the cut. I think Valdy is our backup shortstop and (take a note, Dianne) WILL see some time there.

Rice is in and Carson is out, all the tweeters say.

It almost seems like they want Valdespin as their 'pinch hitter' doesn't it? I'm not sure I'd start him over Duda, Nieuwenhuis or Baxter as a lefty..but does that mean he's the 'second' pinch hitter after they pull Duda or Nieuwenhuis (Or Baxter, despite his lack of evidence of splits) for Byrd or Cowgill?

I don't see Jordany getting SS time either except in a Tejada hurts himself in the 6th situation and Vegas is too far away to get Quintanilla or Hicks or Bixler here for the 7th.

Dude can't win. He survives a camp where Wright, Turner, and Murphy all get hurt, while he hits .308 / .378 / .415 // .793, and they all heal on the eve of battle.

There's a factoid that hasn't been posted all over sports and social media yet.

Oh wait, it has.

sorry, i guess i don't pay that much attention to "social media" (besides the forum of course). I saw it in an article and mentioned it here. Is it posted somewhere here that i missed?

Yeah, I think it was mentioned on the CPF. It seems to pop up in every article I read about the Mets, and my "friends" who are fans of other teams keep sharing it with me.

Posted

We're paying more for the outfielders NOT on our team than we are for the outfielders that ARE on our team!
We have a brilliantly run franchise!
Woo hoo!

But when i mention this fact, I'm subjected to your sarcasm because you have read it somewhere else "on sports and social media" and were annoyed by it?
Wow.

I don't know who you're addressing, but any sarcasm I offer is not for you but for folks rubbing Willets nose in his team.

If I'm sarcastic it's because I've heard it over and over again for at least the past month. Sorry you missed the news. The sucky fact of our sucky outfield doesn't get any less sucky with repetition.

Rubin reports that Jeurys Familia is headed to Denver from Las Vegas. No word as to who he is replacing on the roster, or even if he is certain to be activated. Hope he packed his long woolies.

My guess: Laffey.

Sandy's guess: Burke.

At least, between the windup and the reactions of hitters on seeing same for the first time, his brand of suckage was wacky/amusing.

Posted

Since this thread was last updated, Carson has replaced Laffey.

All roster moves since the season has begun have involved pitchers, but if Adam Rubin is correct, that will soon change. He says that Juan Lagares may be promoted from Las Vegas as soon as today. If so, at whose expense? Baxter or Cowgill, I'd guess?

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket

I'd guess he replace the RH hitter, so less Cowgill in the future.

Posted

Or, with the Mets sked to face three LH starters while the Dodgers are in town (and maybe then Hamels on Sunday when Philly comes by although it looks like we'll miss Lee), maybe Nieuwenhuis gets sent down instead.
If nothing else it'll let him see some steady action as opposed to what he's doing now.

Posted

Nieuwenhuis and his .364 OPS seems like the way to go, no matter which side of the plate he's making outs from.

Grand Central Contributor

Baxter's been..okayish..(needs to hit it harder) and really should be getting more time.

Cowgill's been bad (as has Kirk, but he's barely getting any time to prove himself either way) So either Cowgill or go get Kirk some reps. But those are the breaks when you carry 6 outfielders. You could send Valdespin down too I suppose.
