Harper is not having a good night.

They need to stop with the Jeter love. How about talking to players who actually did something good in the game so far?

"Jeter, so how about Chipper Jones' pregame speech. Did you have anything to say to the AL players?"

"uuhh..what? lead? no, I was busy adding my number to your cellphone covertly. Chipper, good for him right?"

We'll know it counts if a Giants player pulls ahead in the last half-inning.

A-HA!!! They said Melkey is leading. Those Bay Area types must know something about computers. If Buster Posey is elected senator in November, we're seriously going to have to look at what's going on out there.

If the AL scores 8 runs in the bottom of the ninth off Papelbon, will Bud declare the game a tie and send everyone home? Or is Lanced Linn still on the bench?

YES!!!!! Good guys win!!! Mets will have home field advantage in the World Series. Sure, they'll win it in four anyway....

Heard the last inning or so on the radio driving home from work.
Don't know who the announcer was, but he said "book it".
Howie should be calling his lawyer as we speak.

It's nice the Melkey brought his Mom on the field with him!

Em, Howie would be the first to tell you there's nothing particularly original about his signoff.

It sounded strange coming from another voice.
Never heard any other announcer say it.
Who else does?

Holy fuck, they actually need to have a rule change because an MFY -- "The Ambassador of Smiles" -- got booed?

The booing of beleaguered Home Run Derby captain Robinson Cano finally had faded by Tuesday afternoon. But the aftermath could cause Major League Baseball to consider a new rule to include at least one hometown slugger in future Home Run Derbies, commissioner Bud Selig said Tuesday.

The booing of Cano was inspired by his failure to pick Kansas City All-Star Billy Butler for the Derby after pledging earlier this month to include a Royal. Last year's National League captain, Prince Fielder, received similar treatment in Phoenix for not picking Arizona Diamondbacks outfielder Justin Upton.

So Selig conceded those displays of "hometown loyalty" could spark changes to head off similar outbursts in future Derbies.

"We'll talk about this [potential rule change]," Selig said during his annual session with the Baseball Writers Association of America. "While I understand [the feelings of fans in] Kansas City ... I felt very badly last night. I felt badly last year for Prince. This was tough."

When another questioner observed the heat -- and boos -- could even intensify next year with the game scheduled for Citi Field in New York, Selig again lamented Monday's episode.

"It won't be any worse than last night," he said. "You can only boo so loud. ... But let me just say, we'll think about that."

Love the assumption that Citi Field will boo its head off if Ike isn't picked. Half of Citi Field will be on line for Shake Shack. And, sadly, if Cano or some other MFY is participating, the other half of Citi Field will kiss his ass while Jeff Wilpon digs up another pitching rubber to send them.

that was pretty cool by LaRussa ....

very funny to see the slo mo of Melky's shot as he rounded the bases shouting at Cano, then sticks his hand out for a high five, Cano stood there like a statue.....not a good weekend for him,.

Well, if they keep the same format, Beltran is campaigning to be the NL captain.

We get to watch Ike (or Duda) blast home runs every game. It'd be cool if they were in it, sure, but why not just take the top 4 HR guys in the league and go with it? (besides that half of them would back out because some media guys like to propagate the 'ruin your swing' myth)

Hell, who really cares who wins? The second and third rounds drag on and you've already seen those guys peppering the stands and fountains. Give us five and five and one round each, highest total wins.

Damn it, it was cool. Terry can be just as magnanimous next year.

He let one of the other guys go out for the pitching change after that batter too.

Sometimes, with Selig, the last good idea he hears it the best. The last bad idea is the worst.

Captain picking players: it has an emotional element of playground ball and Ryder Cup drama. Good idea! Let's go with it. Wait a minute, somebody might be disappointed, and blame a captain for the selection? Bad idea! Let's bag it!!

Let's think things through.

Well, he's a talking head mostly during this time, I doubt he's even processing what comes out of his mouth sometimes.

btw, Buck was talking about Dickey riding to the game with his family and mentioned that Eli (might not be Eli) was waving with a Knuckleball grip:

Boarded a plane last night just after 8 pm. Had already turned my phone off when I overheard a woman say "they scored again -- it's 5-0 now." Spent the entire flight mad at LaRussa for not starting RA.

That was almost the highlight of the game for me, entertainment wise. They said that those two are good friends and I saw a picture in the papers today from the opposite view (from the TV broadcast) and Cano was smiling at Melky. Ha, funny shit.

I heard this last night and today was hoping to catch a picture or clip of this. Looked in the NY papers and Met photo releases for the game and nothing. I should have known to come here first. This is a great pic. TY 4 sharing Ceetar.
