If I count correctly, there are 10 men (at least) that Mike Nickeas is heir to as a Met. Ten men
and seven GMs along the way keeping the DNA strand of all them alive. Alive in one man ---
the backup catcher and more or less the 25th guy on the roster. All that legacy, hanging on
by the thinnest of threads.

Go, Mike!

Figures. Pulse's DNA must have been responsible for that hideous goatee he sported when he was with the Rangers.

Just to show where one of those other extensions of this branch died off.

So the Lou Collier extension of the branch has died off, although in theory, you can say a minute strand of it carried on in the cash they got for Serrano living on in the next new cash transaction the Mets entered into after that deal. That would likely be the bonus paid to one of their June draft choices, or maybe it's October 9, 2003 waiver claim of Matt Watson from the Athletics. It's a philsophical muddle at that point.

That's a nice chart.

I've often fantasized about a gigantic 40-man roster flow chart being a kind of art installation at the Queens Museum.

Yeah, I agree cash is too fungible to "carry DNA".

Other dead strands:

[table:2ckeq3kh][tr:2ckeq3kh][td:2ckeq3kh]February 5, 2002, Craig House
selected off waivers by the Los
Angeles Dodgers from the New
York Mets.[/td:2ckeq3kh][/tr:2ckeq3kh][/table:2ckeq3kh]

A waiver claim is worth a few thousand dollars, right?!

[table:2ckeq3kh][tr:2ckeq3kh][td:2ckeq3kh]January 26, 2002, Ross Gload
purchased by the Colorado Rockies
from the New York Mets.[/td:2ckeq3kh][/tr:2ckeq3kh][/table:2ckeq3kh]

Again, where did the cash go?!

[table:2ckeq3kh][tr:2ckeq3kh][td:2ckeq3kh]January 28, 2003, Jeff D'Amico signed
as a free agent with the
Pittsburgh Pirates.[/td:2ckeq3kh][/tr:2ckeq3kh][/table:2ckeq3kh]

Did we get a compensation pick for this Type Q free agent?!

[table:2ckeq3kh][tr:2ckeq3kh][td:2ckeq3kh]June 5, 2008, Jose (aka "Joselo")
Diaz released by the New
York Mets.[/td:2ckeq3kh][/tr:2ckeq3kh][tr:2ckeq3kh][td:2ckeq3kh]On June 12, 2008, Jose (aka "Joselo")
Diaz signed as a free agent by
the Texas Rangers.[/td:2ckeq3kh][/tr:2ckeq3kh][/table:2ckeq3kh]

Reunited with Victor Diaz!!

Kole Strayhorn pitched in the Mets system through 2005 and got into a few games with the High-A Potomac Nationals in Washington's system in 2006. I'm guessing we didn't get any compensation there.
