Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 10, 2012 Posted May 10, 2012 If I count correctly, there are 10 men (at least) that Mike Nickeas is heir to as a Met. Ten men and seven GMs along the way keeping the DNA strand of all them alive. Alive in one man --- the backup catcher and more or less the 25th guy on the roster. All that legacy, hanging on by the thinnest of threads.Go, Mike!
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 Figures. Pulse's DNA must have been responsible for that hideous goatee he sported when he was with the Rangers.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 I have a feeling it ends here.Doesn't Wright's DNA go waaaaay back too?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted May 11, 2012 Author Posted May 11, 2012 Just to show where one of those other extensions of this branch died off.[table:3glnykrp][tr:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]On March 24, 2002, Lou Collier was traded to the Montreal Expos for[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][/tr:3glnykrp][tr:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]Jason Bay[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]Jimmy Serrano[/td:3glnykrp][/tr:3glnykrp][tr:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]On July 31, 2002, Jason Bay was traded (along with Josh Reynolds and Bobby Jones) to the San Diego Padres for[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]On July 5, 2003, Jimmy Serrano was purchased by the Kansas City Royals from the New York Mets[/td:3glnykrp][/tr:3glnykrp][tr:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]Jason Middlebrook[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]Steve Reed[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][/tr:3glnykrp][tr:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]On February 9, 2004, Jason Middlebrook signed as a free agent with the Anaheim Angels.[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp]On January 23, 2003, Steve Reed signed as a free agent with the Colorado Rockies.[/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][td:3glnykrp][/td:3glnykrp][/tr:3glnykrp][/table:3glnykrp]So the Lou Collier extension of the branch has died off, although in theory, you can say a minute strand of it carried on in the cash they got for Serrano living on in the next new cash transaction the Mets entered into after that deal. That would likely be the bonus paid to one of their June draft choices, or maybe it's October 9, 2003 waiver claim of Matt Watson from the Athletics. It's a philsophical muddle at that point.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 11, 2012 Posted May 11, 2012 That's a nice chart.I've often fantasized about a gigantic 40-man roster flow chart being a kind of art installation at the Queens Museum.

I'm guessing we didn't get any compensation there.
