From Elias: Jordany Valdespin's first major-league hit was a pinch-hit, go-ahead, two-out, three-run homer off Jonathan Papelbon that propelled the Mets to a 5-2 victory in Philadelphia. Valdespin became the first player in major-league history whose first hit was a home run off a pitcher who had 200-or-more saves to his credit-much less a home run so crucial and dramatic.

The last major-leaguer whose first major-league hit was a go-ahead homer in the ninth inning or later was Miguel Cabrera, whose first hit was a walk-off homer for the Marlins on June 20, 2003.

Now that's pretty cool for him.....

Gotta love that in the post game interview Jordany said that this was a gift for him mom for Mother's Day......and then the bomb...."I'm the man now"......of course it was the way he said it......

The Happy Homerer

I love the way he hit the ball,
Beyond the warning track,
And as he ran, I heard him sing,
With a numeral on his back.

Chorus:
Val-despin,Val-despin,
Val-despin,
Val-despin-spin-spin-spin-spin-spin
Val-despin,Val-despin.
A numeral on his back.

Can someone else confirm that some evening in the last 3-4 days that SNY aired the Omir Santos game as a "Mets classic"? I can swear I just watched a replay of this very recently, where I actually stumbled across it at the start of the 9th inning.

If so I think SNY should get some token Schafer points...
