Jack Sanford: 137
T 307) Ron Darling: 136
Harvey Haddix: 136
Johan Santana: 136
Harry Staley: 136
T 311) Ramon Martinez: 135

he has six more PA than Ike Davis actually.

With his next walk, David Wright will amble by Darryl Strawberry for most bases on balls in a Met career.

No Met has walked more than David Wright, who strolled by Darryl Strawberry last night.

Only Darryl and Mike Piazza have homered more than David, who tied HoJo by belting his 192nd last night.

Good night for David Wright.

frequently he does. The old guy in the other dugout ambles out, and everyone stops for a bit as he chats on the mound with the pitcher and some of the players.

Good show. I don't know if these guys qualify for your observation, but...

All three would, indeed. Good catch on Cedeno, who played in 85 of the 89 pre-break games in 1999.

So he was better that first year as a Met than he was during his combined time with LA & Fla?
That must explain all the booing then.

Wasn't there a season somewhere around 1980 where the Mets had very very few homers by a catcher?

Alex Trevino, John Stearns, Ron Hodges and Butch Benton caught in 1980.

no home runs.

Stearns and Hodges both got 1 a piece in '81.

Then they really turned it on. 5 and 4 in '82 with 2 by Bruce Bochy.

dropped to one by Mike Fitzgerald in '83

Fitz hit two in '84 and Hodges had 1.

I presume I can stop there.

9 by Stearns in '79 (and 15 in '78) That means Mets catchers (well, just the one) hit more home runs (32) in '85 than in the entire period from '79-'84

Zero in 1980. John Stearns hurt his elbow, and only got a half year in, and in the games he did get into, he didn't get any loft on the ball. Alex Trevio, Ron Hodges, and Butch Benton, given a chance to pick him up, didn't.

All that would have been awful on it's own, but what really sealed it was that they didn't get any homers from any of their shorstops or secondbasemen that year either. They totaled a Marisesque 61 --- almost all of those coming from the outfield.

Other seasons that were light on home runs by a catcher. As Ceetar said, there were zero in 1980.

Home runs hit, by position, in 1980. There are a few cases where a player played more than one outfield position in a game in which he homered. I neglected to determine which position he was playing at the time he hit the home run. Either way, we have 16 homers from the infield, 41 from the outfield, and 4 from pinch hitters.
