We don't seem to have a AAA farm team thread for this season so I may as well start one.

My main reason for posting is that the Bisons will be playing in a minor league double-header in Boston on August 18th. If you want to see the Bisons but find Buffalo is too far away or you want to go to Fenway Park when the Red Sox aren't there this is your opportunity.

tempting.

Also, Bisons hosting the All-Star Game this year, which I'm tempted by.

but then you have to watch with Phillies fans and don't get wings or a trip to Niagara Falls.

Excellent point. Especially the part about co-mingling with phucking Phillie fans.

Or, you can catch them on one of their many jaunts to Alliance Bank Stadium, right here in Syracuse NY. A gem of a park, insomuch as it is a AAA stadium 10 minutes from my house.

Harvey gets the opening day start.

The Buffs roster lists Wally Backman at 5'9" and 160. Probably hasn't weight that since 1982.

Posted

The Herd is 3-1 and tied for first. They've had 14 innings pitched by their bullpen so far, and haven't yielded a run. Val Pasucucci has two homers already, and Bobby Scales has been a hit machine.

Buffs up 2-0 in the first over Rochester after a Val Pasucucci homer. Matt Harvey trying to give it back with Red Wing runners on the corners with one out.

Pascucci is now tied for 11th all-time in Buffalo homers.

Posted

Harvey: 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 K, 1 BB, 7H. 92 pitches, 61 for strikes.

Fastball peaked at 95 mph. Working the curve though.

Herd rained out tonight, but worthy of mention is Matt Harvey's work last night: Six innings on the mound, three runs yielded as Syracuse bunched four hits and three walks. But he struck out 10 and got two hits and an RBI of his own. It was his first AAA win.

Val Pascucci hit what is already his sixth homer, moving from first base to right field, back to first. Eight of his 17 hits have been for extra bases.

Bobby Scales went 0-5 and his average dropped to .388.

Yeah, Harper has had a poor start, and it encourages me to think that maybe we've got a better chance to get mid-season help from AAA than Washington does.

Dylan Owen homered in support of himself yesterday in a 5-1 win over the Pigs of Iron.

If you're looking for catcherly help, neither Rob Johnson (.231 / .256 / .359 // .615) nor Lucas May (.147 / .171 / .382 // .554) are hitting much yet. Most others are, though.

The Bisons had an early AM start today at Lehigh Valley. Already up 6-0 in the middle of the third with homers from Josh Satin and Omar Quintanilla (his first). More importantly, Matt Harvey is perfect through his first six batters.

Now 12. Sandy has said he wouldn't take Pelfrey's spot right now, but the potential hole in the Mets rotation has to provide some motivation for Harvey.

And OE: Harvey's hit a 2 run HR. Buffalo is mashing, up 11-0 in the 5th.

Crispus Attucks. Wally's lads lead 11-0 in the top of the fifth. Tough times for the home squad.

Josh Satin is 3-3 and has eight total bases

The Mets' minor league affiliates are a collective 60-36 --- best winning percentage of any organization (.625).

The Buffs keep rolling behind a 3-0 shutout of the Gwinnett Braves (side question: would you consider Gwinnett County a AAA-hosting sort of locale?), the first six innings courtesy of Matt Harvey. The big blow was a homerun from Omar Quintanilla, his fifth, a total that would be described as "team-leading" if they were hit as a Met.

John Sickels takes note of Harvey in today's notes:

On the season, he is 3-1, 4.00 ERA with a 32/16 K/BB in 36 innings with 36 hits and a 1.15 GO/AO. Harvey has been inconsistent from start to start, mixing strong outings (such as seven shutout innings on April 25th and a 10-strikeout game on April 20th) with weaker games where his command wobbled. He's holding his own overall, working to refine his command and improve the changeup to complement his low-to-mid-90s fastball, slider, and curve. Harvey needs more time, and I don't think he is a candidate for rapid promotion barring disasters on the major league staff.

Baseball lifer Bobby Scales has been placed on the inactive list as he prepares to sign a contract with a (so-far-unnamed) Japanese team. That's a shame for the Mets and the Buffs, as Scales had been tilting the scales to the tune of .339 / .459 / .486 // .945, and it breaks up a devastating infield duo combo with Omar Quintanilla (.283 / .356 / .519 // .875). This might be good news for Jordany Valdespin, perhaps freeing up more infield time for the career infielder. And it might mean another chance for old buddy Brad Emaus.

Harvey fans 11 in six innings and Pascucci hits two homers as Buffalo beats Gwinnett 5-3. Order me up a plate o' dat for the Mets.

That's closing in on 300 homers in Pascucci's career:

Major Leagues: 3
Affiliated minors: 241
Independent Minors: 3
Japan League: 21*
Total: 268

*I think.

Vinny F. Rottino, ends a 20-game hitting streak with Buffalo, comes back angry the next day and hits three homers,

Posted

Bisons win 6-2 as the visitors in their own stadium, with the Scranton-Wilkes Barre-Nowheresville Yankees as the nominal home team. Dustin Martin, rejoining the Mets system after years in exile with the Twins as a result of the Luis Castillo trade, had two big hits. He was one of five Mets with two or more hits, actually. Matt Harvey? Effecitive in uninspiring. 5.1 IP, 103 pitches, 4 hits 2 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO.
