Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted September 23, 2013 Posted September 23, 2013 Despite a lack of overall production and power so far in the minors, we have to be happy with his approach at the plate (with an OB% close to .400), with the size and athleticism to fill out and develop power later. He also has the arm and speed to cover ground in CF, and if he ever learns to steal bases, he can be a... well, a good base-stealer. I don't know that he'll ever be a major-leaguer, but he still has the promise he showed as a high draft pick.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted October 16, 2013 Posted October 16, 2013 Was selected before Sonny Gray and Jose Fernandez...
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Nimmo invited to big league camp.
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Ashie62 wrote:Was selected before Sonny Gray and Jose Fernandez...Well, tough. Still got plenty of time to make a big league outfielder out of this guy. He's like three and a half years younger than Gray, so let's try and be fair.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I saw something on Nimmo yesterday claiming that a lot of his problems this past year were due to him playing through a wrist injury. The writer relayed these stats:Prior to April 20 (pre-injury): .392/.489/.527April 20 through July (injured): .207/.330/.282August through end of season (recovering): .315/.468/.398In all it worked out to a full year at Savannah at .273/.397/.359His K's are higher than you'd like and he hasn't shown much power for a guy who may have to wind up in a corner OF position rather than CF.On the other hand he still isn't 21 (March), knows the strike-zone (walks = approx 1.5x normal rates) which is often something that bodes well for future success, and power is usually the last thing to develop in a young player.Probably slated for High-A Port St Lucie this year so I wouldn't expect a jump in power, but I'll be following to see how the rest of the year progresses for him.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted January 30, 2014 Author Posted January 30, 2014 Nimmo sneaks into Keith Law's Top 100 prospects at No. 92.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 He cant hit or run...bust on the horizon...baseball version of Billy Beane...
Vic Sage Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2014 Posted February 22, 2014 So right after he gets named as a top 100 prospect, and one of the Mets' top 10, you pronounce him a bust. At age 21. ok.And wasn't Billy Beane the baseball version of Billy Beane?
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 I love Ashie's post so much I've already embroidered it on a pillow.

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Which one of you is shitting Ashie?I'm having trouble gleaning what your complaint is. Given 20 minutes, I'm sure I could find 10 All Stars who began their third year of pro ball in high A. This is the way things work.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 The lack of a real standout tool is a little nettlesome. But yeah, I don't get the Howard Beale treatment regarding this guy.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted February 23, 2014 Posted February 23, 2014 Ashie obviously picked up some info on his most recent scouting trip.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 I was briefly hospitalized and am rounding into form...I tend to ignore the fact that phenoms like 20 year old Jose Fernandez are a more than a few miles from the norm...I would like to see him take some nice steps this showing some power if he projects as a corner...Go team
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Welcome back, Ash. Hope you're alright.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2014 Posted February 25, 2014 Thank you..I dropped 13 pounds in seven days..My sugar went to 485 and I got saturated....Feeling better
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 4, 2014 Author Posted March 4, 2014 Whereas Rubin reports Nimmo added weight. Or something. Don't tell Chass.Definitely stronger. Spent winter at IMG Academy in FL
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2014 Posted March 5, 2014 He looks terrific and cut....now hit!
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 The guy is hitting .600, Ash. It's March 6.Enough with the rush to surrender.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 Have we back at the point where a guy can report to spring training bigger and stronger than before without us having to wonder what might be in his urine?

Edgy MD Site Manager Posted March 6, 2014 Posted March 6, 2014 When dudes are getting stronger at 20, it's pretty consistent with their peer group.Asides, minor leaguers have a lot tougher time evading testing scrutiny.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2014 Author Posted March 10, 2014 The Wyoming Walloper sent down in the first round of cuts.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 2, 2014 Author Posted April 2, 2014 From Rubin: Brandon Nimmo chills with Andrew McCutchen, could be more Captainy in his praise toward his elders.“Cutch doesn’t act like an NL MVP at all,†Nimmo said. “He’s a very down-to-earth guy. He’s very much like [Curtis] Granderson, where any questions that I had he would answer them, and anything that I needed he would come right to me and be honest with me. It was just awesome to be around that kind of guy and understand what kind of work ethic will get you there.†Also, the kid is bulked up, explaining PEDs are totally the way to go if you want to achieve results fast. No, of course not that.“They put 20 pounds on me,†said Nimmo, a 6-foot-3 outfielder from Wyoming. “And it was really good muscle. None of it was bad weight. I had a nutritionist watching what I was eating. We just did it the right way. And I felt like that was what I needed. I felt like I needed to move on and train a little bit more like a professional. Obviously now you see the results of that physically.â€
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2014 Author Posted April 13, 2014 Hot start at PSL, reports Mets minor league maven Toby Hyde: 3-for-5 last night; .406/.525/.563 w/ 2 2B, 1 HR, 8 BB in first nine games of the high-A season.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 The 8 walks vs just 10 Ks is an impressive ratio (SSS alert at always)
Edgy MD Site Manager Posted April 22, 2014 Posted April 22, 2014 The Billy Beane of Baseball: .388 / .488 / .507 // .995.He's just making it all look silly right now in St. Loo. Only five of the 26 hits have gone for extra bases, but it would be real miserly to complain about that sort of thing at this moment.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 5, 2014 Author Posted May 5, 2014 Nimmo didn't get on base Monday night, reducing his OBP to a mere .489. Slugging is only .441, but I'm sure he's earning bonuses on whatever scale the organization rewards its youngsters for not swinging too much.
