this is based on a dreadful Broadway musical, which i walked out of at intermission. Maybe the movie will be more palatable, but i doubt it.

This looks like a movie where they set out to be the kind of dreck you can't help but watch a la "Over the Top" but forget that the thing that makes bad-good movies so great is that they were intended to be good but turned out bad; they didn't try to be bad so we'd like them.

I got the Broadway Cast recording out of the library this weekend, and musically, I kinda enjoy it. The story, as best I can make out, is insipid. I can't imagine the movie being any good, but I'm intrigued by the recordings.
