Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Fill in the blank:You've just been handed tickets to an upcoming Mets game and, because you've checked the schedule and realize it could be a real important one for the stretch drive (work with me here, OK?), your first thought is; "Oh, I really hope ________ is pitching that night."In other words, without muddling up your answer by bringing in factors such as age, future hopes, general likability, or grading on a curve due to salary & expectations, which one of the current starters would you currently trust the most to put in a good outing on a given night?
dgwphotography Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 George Stone (some pain just don't go away)Seriously, my first, knee-jerk reaction is Niese.
MFS62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I voted Gee - the best option for a good performance on a given night. But on second thought, R.A. Dickey, while not as consistent, might be the one to pitch the team's first no-hitter on any given night.DGW - that's not just pain. That's massive trauma.Later
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 (edited) Gee may have been a contender for my vote early, and he's impressed me with the battling-with-bad-stuff jobs he's done in the last 2-3 starts. But it's really a two-man race here, and Hawkman takes it by a sensitive hangnail over Beowulf. (It's REAL close.) Edited July 30, 2011 by Guest
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 None of these guys compares to pre-injured Johan. But among this batch I've seen Niese pitch some great games, so I'd go with him.
Theoldmole Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Good, difficult question. I went with Niese.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 I went with Niese, but it's really a four guys I'm comfortable with, and one guy I'm not.

soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 NIese, but shouldn't it be 'whom do you trust?'
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Posted July 30, 2011 Went with Niese in a close call over Gee.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2011 Author Posted July 30, 2011 ^Nice one, although that wasn't my inspiration.Actually ...soupcan wrote:NIese, but shouldn't it be 'whom do you trust?'... I was going for a play off the old TV game-show which gave Johnny Carson his start (no, really, I was) but then abandoned the idea of making a reference to the show seeing as how I never saw it and probably fewer have even heard of it ... but then I kept the title as the subject heading anyway.
