ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Sorry to see Grimm not posting this but...Time to rebound..
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 You ask me whether I'd swap Niese for Gallardo straight up, and as much as I like-a the Hawkman, I'd do it (and not JUST to root for a guy named "Yovani Gallardo").But you look at their stat lines on the year, and-- leaving aside pitching win-loss record-- they're surprisingly similar. (3.72 ERA/1.34 WHIP/2.23 K-to-BB ratio/12 HR allowed vs. 3.75 ERA/1.40 WHIP/2.19 K-to-BB/7 HR allowed). Basically, Gallardo gives up more HRs but strikes out more dudes/lets slightly-fewer guys on base... but, yeah, about the same level of effectiveness, from similar-styled pitchers. Of course, Gallardo hits like Carlos Zambrano, only with speed instead of crazy, so... still Yovani. But it's closer than you might think.
Guest attgig Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I'm going to make the early prediction that niese throws the mets first no-hitter today. today is the day...
TransMonk Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Now you've jinxed it. Getting to see a Metly no-no in person would be one of the highlights of my life.I'll be happy if the Mets can just keep Prince from hitting a dinger.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Everybody in the starting lineup, please step forward...Not so fast there, Bay.Jose Reyes, ss Justin Turner, 3b Carlos Beltran, rf Daniel Murphy, 1b Angel Pagan, cf Jason Pridie, lf Josh Thole, c Ruben Tejada, 2b Jon Niese, lhp

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Good. Every time Bay steps to the plate I get erect with rage.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 They had no business pitching to Tejada in that lame looking lineup with Niese on deckle.Heck, sometimes I wonder why teams don't play four outfielders in that situation.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 So, next years IF could be Ike Davis, Ruben Tejada, Jose Reyes and David Wright. I like
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Kicking Red to the curb. Ouch. This team is triple awesome.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 If Reyes is not the current NL MVP, Fielder is.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Everybody hits...keep it coming. Bay? You keep watching what these guys do.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Author Posted June 9, 2011 Muffy, that was kinda funny, nice try.

I was thinking as they did that about how pissed I was when Jerry would (often) walk #8 hitters (early in the game especially) rather than try to set up the pitcher to lead off the following inning.#1 pitcher going (had an off night but you didn't know that then) vs a 21 y/o #8 hitting middle infielder only in the lineup due to injuries? ... it didn't work out for the Brews but I would have done the same thing.Meanwhile, that's the 2nd time in three days we've turned killer innings into only so-so ones -- 8th inning game 1 was the other.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Well, I don't mean to suggest that he should have been walked, but rather pitched around with the go-ahead run in scoring position.Meanwhile, the Mets are up 11 baserunners to two, but only one Prince Fielder swat seperates them in the column that counts.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 More or less the same thing.I would have gone after him. The fact that he couldn't get him was probably the first clue that it wasn't Gallardo's night.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I've seen much more blatant examples of obstruction not called than that one with Prince/Pagan. I didn't see how he obstructed him at all.Not that it ultimately mattered. The two-man wrecking crew up this inning.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 How has Fielder gotten anything to hit this year, what with the black hole of productivity that is Casey McGehee hitting behind him?
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 I dunno - but that was one helluva job by Niese right there.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Agreed. Love watching Hawkman drop the hammer on these shitdicks.
Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 McGehee kicking the ball around like one of those Ecuador guys at Citi Field.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Niese at 84 pitches through seven. Can we do something radical and use the bullpen on an as-needed basis tonight?

Obstruction does not require contact; it only requires that the fielder be in the way of the runner when the runner is trying to move forward.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Go-Go goes down for strikeout number eight.Let's Niese them out here and get another run(s) and save-proof this thing.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Niese pacing 170 strikeouts. If you recall I predicted he has an outside shot at 200 if he were to improve tonight. (i.e. pitch like tonight more often)I also asked you who would have more strikeouts, Niese or Wright. I think we've answered that one.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 Gotta get Hart here.Big boys up next.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 9, 2011 Posted June 9, 2011 If I'm Neise, I make Terry pry me out of this game with a crowbar. Let's keep the pen out of it!
