Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 The clash of the titans NLEast/Ace pitcher style in Florida tonight.- Halladay goes 8 giving up 2 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits, 2 BBs, 9 Ks- Josh Johnson goes 7 limiting the Phils to 1 run on 6. 3 BBs, 7 KsNunez in for the save attempt: K (Gload) - BB (Mayberry), GO (Rollins - Mayberry to 2nd), GO (Victorino) -- and the Marlins win.In da Bronx, Yanx benefitting from several favorable calls.Have you ever seen a balk call reversed? Yeah, me either. Runner on 1st for KC breaks early and is out via a pick off (1-3-6) except the home ump called a balk on pitcher Garcia's 1st move. But suddenly the umps get together and decide that Garcia did NOT balk and the runner is out !?!!?? That's a judgement call, not a better angle thing. And besides, did the runner slow down upon hearing the balk call? Didn't look like it in this case but how can you tell? And if he did does that mean you don't reverse the call? The batter then preceded to walk ... and then get thrown out stealing. Pitcher couldn't retire anyone that inning and yet no Royal even gets to 2nd base.Later on a KC batter is called out on a half-swing call w/2 outs and bases loaded down by two runs. The bat didn't reach the back of the plate.Still 3-1 Yanx, Mariano in for the 9th.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 Johnson gave up his only run on a solo shot by Howard early; Halladay gave up an early run as well and the game remained tied until the bottom of the 8th when a Rollins throwing error plus Halladay wild pitch set up that second Marlins run.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2011 Author Posted May 10, 2011 Francisco Liriano joins the list of guys who don't even come close when going for "a Vander Meer"1st start after his no-hitter and he coughs up 5 runs in 4 innings to the Tiggers
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted May 10, 2011 Posted May 10, 2011 It's raining in Minnesota and not an official game yet so he might get another shot.
