I don't care - same difference.

I realize that he's 'entitled' to it, but it doesn't sit well with me.

....and how about a little planned parenting for MLB players? You friggin' know you're going to be working daily for a period of April to September (possibly October), why not put that in the mix when you think about making reproductive whoopee?

Well, I have no great Hu lust, but there's something on Terry here, that he (1) can't find any starts for Hu, (2) keeps a redikalikalikalously short bench, and (3) burns that bench nightly like a serial arsonist, leaving Hu frequently the team's last best hope.

#2 is on Alderson.

As for #1, there's no reason to find any starts for Hu because he's not any good. Is he supposed to sit Reyes or Murphy? I suppose Hu could have gotten a start or two that went to Emaus or Turner instead but it's been pretty well established that Hu can't hit, at all.

Yeah, the best argument against Hu's release is that it's only been 13 at-bats and no starts, surprised things being how they are that haven't thrown him a start at 2B vs. a lefty by now. He did have a great turn AB in that big win last week.

I have no problem with a player missing a couple of games for the birth of his child.

EDIT: That is, assuming he has to leave town. If the birth is in the New York suburbs, and the Mets are at home, he can take a few hours away to play in the game. I'd allow him to report later than the other players, but he really could play in the game.

LARCHMONT?!

30 minutes from CitiField!

My head is going to explode.

this was basically my reaction to the paternity leave......back Thursday apparently....

hey, my co-worker took paternity leave January first and isn't back until June 1st....

Third child for the Bays. I think the more alarming thing is when conception must have occurred. YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO AVOID STRENUOUS ACTIVITY.

Hell, I was able to get a week for YoungerPooper, but I had a surplus of vacation days from the previous year; plus, as far as our office's hitting goes, I'm pretty superfluous, really.

Is your co-worker a multi-millionaire? Does your co-worker only work six-months per year? Did your co-worker miss 30% of work last year, performing far below expectations in the other 70% (if so, lucky guy to still have his job)? Did your co-worker just recently return to work and then take his 4 month leave?

I hate it when I care more about the Mets than the Mets do.

I don't believe the Mets can/could possibly deny Bay his leave. It's an MLB thing.

Yes, Ceetar I get that. I'm sure Bay's not being held prisoner in his home however.

I'm with Soupcan on this , all the way baby.....maybe Bay knocks in some of those men left on base last night.

He's not sitting at home twiddling his thumbs either. Even if he were to 'pop over for the game' and ignore BP and all that, he'd still have to leave by like 5 and not get home until well after 11, if not longer.

And THAT my friends is my point.

Dude, it's a homestand, the guy lives a half hour from the workplace. He can spend the day with the fam and get his thin-skulled Canadian ass over to Queens for the game.

Seriously, leave it with the why-wasn't-he-running. Reyes got on base 6 times tonight. He did HIS job.

Lost in the blown-chances shuffle and flag-waving kerfuffle... Reyes' six-times-on-base bit last night was only the tenth time it's ever been accomplished in franchise history.

The last time? Just about three years ago, courtesy of one... Jose Reyes.

The problem with his six times on base is that he scored just once - courtesy of Beltran's 1st inning HR.
Only once in the next five times on did he even get as far as 2nd - courtesy of his own SB that time.
He did drive in a run once too.

Because the Mets wouldn't want to impose on the guy they paid 66 million dollars to play baseball. Maybe they could compromise and allow leave Bay to leave the game early -- say 9pm-ish. He could watch Letterman live.

Clearly, what Jose Reyes did at the plate last night was a rarity in Mets history. Any time a single player reaches base six times, it's highly likely that his team won the game, but it didn't turn out that way last night. Two final notes: Reyes is the only shortstop in team history to have done this, and he's also the only player to do so and steal a base during the game, which he did once in each game.

And after perusing that list, the only player to have done it more than once.

But so what, right? Trade him because he's not worth what he's going to get in his next contract. Doesn't provide any excitement, fans don't come to watch him, he's not a good guy, always gets in trouble off the field, etc., etc.

I'm in a mood today boy.

I'm starting to think that perhaps my position on Bay may in fact not be unpopular.

I understand the Mets cannot tell jason Bay he can't go on paternity leave, which is his right.

But I would like to think that Jason Bay, after sucking for a half-year, missing a half-year, then missing the first three weeks of this season, might want to just say, OK, I'll be there for the birth, maybe miss one game, then come right back.

[At the very least we know Bay would not have been pinch-hit for in the 5th inning last night]

Shrill fuck Giant fans definitely made more noise late than the Mets fans. Deathly silent when the Mets were at bat and the scoreboard wasn't prompting. One SF was overheard to say, "Why aren't the Mets fans cheering? This is when their team needs the support."

I don't have a good answer to that.

Maybe we spoke too soon. What if there were unusual circumstances surrounding his newborn's birth?

Because we're sick of caring more about the game than the players or owners do?

If that's the case all bets are off and I am totally on board with his missing as many games as necessary.

....but I haven't heard anything along those lines at all.

I hear the kid alrady has more extra-base hits than Jason.

If he or she was born impolite, Bay may just have to take the rest of the year off.

Cause it ain't Shea? I haven't heard a good "Lets Go Mets" chant since Citifield opened.
