You friggin' know you're going to be working daily for a period of April to September (possibly October), why not put that in the mix when you think about making reproductive whoopee?

Is he supposed to sit Reyes or Murphy? I suppose Hu could have gotten a start or two that went to Emaus or Turner instead but it's been pretty well established that Hu can't hit, at all.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Yeah, the best argument against Hu's release is that it's only been 13 at-bats and no starts, surprised things being how they are that haven't thrown him a start at 2B vs. a lefty by now. He did have a great turn AB in that big win last week.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I have no problem with a player missing a couple of games for the birth of his child.EDIT: That is, assuming he has to leave town. If the birth is in the New York suburbs, and the Mets are at home, he can take a few hours away to play in the game. I'd allow him to report later than the other players, but he really could play in the game.

Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Third child for the Bays. I think the more alarming thing is when conception must have occurred. YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO AVOID STRENUOUS ACTIVITY.Hell, I was able to get a week for YoungerPooper, but I had a surplus of vacation days from the previous year; plus, as far as our office's hitting goes, I'm pretty superfluous, really.

Does your co-worker only work six-months per year? Did your co-worker miss 30% of work last year, performing far below expectations in the other 70% (if so, lucky guy to still have his job)? Did your co-worker just recently return to work and then take his 4 month leave? I hate it when I care more about the Mets than the Mets do.

Even if he were to 'pop over for the game' and ignore BP and all that, he'd still have to leave by like 5 and not get home until well after 11, if not longer.

He can spend the day with the fam and get his thin-skulled Canadian ass over to Queens for the game.

Reyes' six-times-on-base bit last night was only the tenth time it's ever been accomplished in franchise history. The last time? Just about three years ago, courtesy of one... Jose Reyes.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 The problem with his six times on base is that he scored just once - courtesy of Beltran's 1st inning HR.Only once in the next five times on did he even get as far as 2nd - courtesy of his own SB that time.He did drive in a run once too.

Maybe they could compromise and allow leave Bay to leave the game early -- say 9pm-ish. He could watch Letterman live.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Clearly, what Jose Reyes did at the plate last night was a rarity in Mets history. Any time a single player reaches base six times, it's highly likely that his team won the game, but it didn't turn out that way last night. Two final notes: Reyes is the only shortstop in team history to have done this, and he's also the only player to do so and steal a base during the game, which he did once in each game. And after perusing that list, the only player to have done it more than once. But so what, right? Trade him because he's not worth what he's going to get in his next contract. Doesn't provide any excitement, fans don't come to watch him, he's not a good guy, always gets in trouble off the field, etc., etc.I'm in a mood today boy.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I understand the Mets cannot tell jason Bay he can't go on paternity leave, which is his right. But I would like to think that Jason Bay, after sucking for a half-year, missing a half-year, then missing the first three weeks of this season, might want to just say, OK, I'll be there for the birth, maybe miss one game, then come right back.[At the very least we know Bay would not have been pinch-hit for in the 5th inning last night]
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 Shrill fuck Giant fans definitely made more noise late than the Mets fans. Deathly silent when the Mets were at bat and the scoreboard wasn't prompting. One SF was overheard to say, "Why aren't the Mets fans cheering? This is when their team needs the support."I don't have a good answer to that.
