Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 They lost the first game in '86/NLCS too. Reyes-SS, Thole-C, Wright-3B, Beltran-RF, Davis-1B, Pagan-CF, Harris-LF, Murphy-2B, Dickey-RHPI'll be in attendence tonight. Presumably there will be others, but I'm not positive on that.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 The others may not actually be there, but you can bet your bippy they'll be announced as if they were.

But only the teams care about the 'sold' over the 'in attendance'. Why can't they give us both?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Actual turnstile attendance is considered by MLB as something they don't want the public or media to have, particularly to contrast with paid attendance figures.I'm quite sure the Mets do have that information available to themselves at least.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Yeah. Publishing "No-show" statistics could be very embarrassing at time.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Years ago they separated the "Paid" and "actual" attendance because it mattered as to how the money was divided. And to further complicate things the AL figured their split with the visiting team based on tickets sold vs the NL which did so on bodies in attendance. The merging of the leagues under the Bud era standardized the two under the 'Paid' umbrella at which point the total number of warm bodies seemed to go out the window.

And fans aren't taking pictures of all the emptiness and posting it to Twitter and blogs? It's silly. I understand MLBs all about the secrecy and the don't embed our clips or dare to show them elsewhere OMG! but they're not fooling anyone.Ahh. good info Frayed Knot. I wonder if it's something that didn't exist to the extent it does today? Now everyone's a scalper, so lots more tickets go unsold. Also the value of said ticket has made it more of a commodity.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 I think a larger pct of tickets now-a-days are sold via season tickets or partial season packages which could contribute to a gap between sold and used.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2011 Posted April 20, 2011 Wait. I'm not a scalper. Are all you people scalpers? Ick.
