Michael Cera aw-shuckses his way through 8-bit-/comic-book-style battles for the hand of a pink-haired layday fayre. The central "love is a battlefield" metaphor aside, it's not particularly insightful. But it's aesthetically cool, and-- as brought to you by the House of Shaun of the Dead/Hot Fuzz-- full of smirky jokes of both the cartoon-visual (characters turning into reward coins when defeated) and deadpan (the vegan ex-boyfriend having special powers because he's "better than other people," e.g.). Depending on how you feel about Michael Cera*/hipster snark/anime-with-a-wink, you'll probably find this amiable and amusing or headache-inducing. I liked it.

*I feel strongly that if you were introduced to Michael Cera via George Michael/Arrested Development, you're far more predisposed to find his shtick-- no matter how shopworn the particular iteration-- pleasant than you would if you came to him via, say, Juno or other flicks.

My son and i enjoyed it thoroughly, even though neither of us is partial to Michael Cera-hipster-snark or even anime-with-a-wink.
In fact, we generally prefer our anime winkless and our Cera snarkless.

Thought it was pretty good. One of Michael Cera's best post-Suberbad movies.

I enjoyed that Roxy Richter was played by Mae Whitman who portrayed George Michael's girlfriend Ann on Arrested Development.

Same. I'm pretty sure that at one point, when he's putting that all together, he gets a weird look on his face, and says, "Her?"

I've seen this about 3 times now (I'm watching it this afternoon) and I enjoy it more each time.

I like the video game imagery and I even think that Sex Bob Bomb's music kick's ass. Fun shit.

I'm afraid that I wouldn't care about this movie because I don't dig video games and pay close to zero attention to video game culture. I can assure you goes for Wifey double.

Even so, this is good you're saying?

the last video game i played was PONG, but i liked it. i think it depends on your affection for Michael Serra. i like his film persona. others hate him.
