The New York Mets are closing in on a deal with free-agent right-hander Chris Young, a source within the organization told ESPNNewYork.com.
Young, 31, made three September starts for the San Diego Padres last season, after missing most of the season with a strained right shoulder.
The deal will not be completed until the Mets are satisfied with Young's physical.

If I'm not mistaken, they'll need the physical period to open up some room on the roster. It looks from my perspective like Pat Misch or Luis Hernandez is going to be sucking down some waiver juice.

If he has a good ST maybe someone will take him with the Mets eating a large amount of that money, I just don't see them eating all of it, if they can even get a team to take on a few million then that's something.

No it won't. the Mets have 41 guys for a 40 man roster, and everyone know the Mets want him off the team. Why give the Mets anything if you can have him April 1st for free?

I wish I had more confidence in Young, but I get the feeling he's not going to be very good. He missed the season that was supposed to be his bounce back season. Kind of mysterious shoulder injuries and decreased velocity...not good signs.

I'd love if he were to work out, but I'm not that optimistic.

Understood, and considering the magnitude of his size, any impingment on his motion can have a devastating effect on his mechanics.

But at that price, I'll consider a 50% chance of him becoming a solid, stable part of the rotation as a good deal.

I think the odds are fairly good that either Capuano or Young will be able to start 20 or more games. Signing both of them is better than just signing one of them. (The eggs/basket thing.)

And the hope is that Santana will be back for the last 12-15. So that bridges that gap, and maybe someone in Buffalo shows something to fill in when the other gets hurt.

do the 41 guys include krod? because he's still in the disqualified list. not on the 40 man.
that'll be another person that needs to leave assuming that krod gets back on the 40 man on opnening day which is to be expected.

no, K-Rod would be 42. I've mentally assigned K-Rod Santana's spot, who likely can be transferred to the 60 day DL the same time Frankie needs to be activated.

Once a deal is 'official' do they have to 'officially' add him to the 40 man roster? So the real news would be the cooresponding move.
