Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Asian Reporter from Queens Chronicle on the job!
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 "Will you bring your Asian experience to Mets to help them win more?""Will there be more Asian players on the Mets?"I think the same reporter asked very similar questions at Sandy's conference.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 He's kind of a dork, isn;t he?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Kevin gets the first interview too.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 No questions from The Times, Newsday, News, etc?
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Not a lot of questions...where are you Rubin, Lennon, et al?
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Would David Lennon have asked, "Will you bring more Long Island players to Mets?"

I laughed.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 That was pretty quick. I think he handled himself well, and liked the pinstripes and blue cap.He liked the word 'execution." The fundamentals answer was a good one.I winder if the Mets have had more Asian players than any other team. Seems like we have a different one each year -- and none stay for too long.

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 As a print guy, I rarely ask questions at a press conference, especially if I know I'm going to get a one-on-one later. I'm not going to serve up questions for the television competition to use before my product gets out there. Our new emphasis on the web has changed that a little. But the television people are usually spread more thin and don't have the expertise that a beat reporter will have. I noticed that they'd hang back, let me ask all the questions and then skedaddle, with me having done all their work for them. So I just stopped asking anything other than the most obvious questions while they were around, and it was fun to see their look of panic.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 "I'd like to introduce myself to the assembled media and introduce my pimply red ass to Wally Backman."That was totally uncalled for.
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Despite the "we will still bunt" I liked the message from Collins at least. I didn't hear one maniacal laugh either. refreshing.

Was waiting for his question. He would ask,"Um, could you guys, like, tell me what's happening? The only news I broke during this whole hiring process was that the Mets were going to interview the Phillies bench coach and that didn't turn out to be accurate. So, like, could you help?"
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Bobby Ojeda is pretty energetic too.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 A two year deal for Collins spells "tryout" and "expendable."
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 It also spells "unreliable" and "we got the leftovers of the managerial carousel".
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Author Posted November 23, 2010 Sandy: Dave Jauss and Randy Niemann will be "making decisions" in the next couple of days. Howard Johnson and Razor Shines will not be coming back.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 It spells absolutely typical for a manager in his position. Sheesh.

Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I do find it pretty hilarious that we're going from Jerry to Terry. I don't think I'm likely to call him that, though. I prefer TC.

There's no way I can take two more years of this. Good luck, Wally."
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Joe and Evan killing the press conference. Is there anything about the Mets people won't criticize? Advertising location and color, wall colors, press conference depth of questions..what's next, the height of the stairs in the rotunda? The "METS" being off center on the uniform? Sprinkler system? How many sunflower seeds David Wright eats?
