G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Somebody gave him an eighth-place vote, anyway. Joey Votto won the award going away.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 David finished only 440 points behind Vottohttp://bbwaa.com/

(A vote for Howard is not).
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 The voting pattern for Howard was definitely the weirdest.Only 7 voters out of 32 listed him in their top 10 at all - but those votes were all 7th place or higher including that one 2nd place vote as well as one 3rd, one 4th, and two each for 5th, 6th, & 7th.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 well, the phillies were the best team in the nl, and ryan howard hit the most homers and drove in the most runs on the phillies, therefore he was surely their best (position) player, and the best (position) player on the best team should be the mvp. right? halladay's actually an enlightened choice in a way. i mean, i'd be curious to see the rationale from the specific voter, but he did have the 2nd highest WAR total in the league, tied with ubaldo jiminez at 6.5, per bbref, behind pujols' 7.2.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Howard was actually 3rd amongst Phillies as both Halladay & Werth finished ahead of him in total points and were named on more ballots.Werth was named by more than twice as many voters (15 to 7) but had no votes higher than 5th.
