Steve Phillips in 2000 made up a rule that said any player who had been a Met in 2000, wasn't there by the end of the season and then went to the playoffs with another team that year was ineligible for a league champions ring. The only player who met that criteria was Rickey Henderson, who left on bad terms (of his own making, I might add). Phillips was asked if this was a Rickey rule specifically. After dancing around it a couple of time, he said, yeah.

BTW, I 100% believe you on this, just wondering where you read it. That's a juicy little tidbit.

Sounds 100% true. Phillips' unprofessionalism in his post-Mets life reached a level that even the Genius couldn't touch.

That Phillips was bitter towards Rickey and didn't want him to get a ring is certainly not a secret. Not then, not since.
I don't specifically remember him trying to hide that sentiment behind some goofy and made-up-just-for-the-occasion "rule", but it wouldn't surprise me.

In my book:
- Beltran gets a pass on account of facing an unhittable pitch.
- Arod gets a pass because his team was down by 5.

In my book, it was just one plate appearance for all of them. Nobody should get an outright pass, but nobody should be defined by it, either.
