Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 One less competitor for Valentine.Boy the Dodgers are worse f-ups than the Mets I tell you.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Ownership being what it is, this can't be the most secure job, can it?Also interesting: Torre does not say that he is done managing
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Not at all surprised that Torre is stepping aside. His decision might not have been about money (he is 70 and has a young-ish wife/kid) but the financial clusterfuck that is the Dodger ownership situation right now almost certainly means no high-priced mgrs in the near future which probably helped push Joe in that direction (as it did in NY) Semi-surprised that they went to Mattingly and that they did so so quickly (do they get banged for not having a silly minority search?). Recent rumors cited AAA mgr (and former LAD player) Tim Wallach as a candidate.
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Dodgers violating key rule of baseball: Don't put Don Mattingly in uniform during the regular season if you want to be in the World Series. The most successful franchise in the history of the sport stopped going to the World Series every season Donnie Baseball wore its clothes: 1982-1995, 2004-2007. Haven't seen the Dodgers there either the last couple of years.
seawolf17 Old-Timey Member Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 I tried to sell a friend on the Mattingly Jinx when they rehired him as a coach, but he refused to even consider it.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 A Met-aphor for all seasons.
