Pelfrey on mound, offense-for-defense lineup sub in the outfield, defense-for-offense lineup sub in the infield.

Is it weird that-- at this point-- I'm almost more concerned when Manuel does something that seems well-thought-out than when he runs out a lineup like last night, or bunts a man from second to third with one out?

Messed-up stuff tends to happen in Pittsburgh. Stay frosty, everybody.

Other team whose fans likely can't believe we complain as much as we do:

McCutchen CF
Tabata LF
Walker 2B
Alvarez 3B
Doumit RF
Clement 1B
Snyder C
Cedeno SS
Karstens P

As ever, expect a 5-0 lead blown or at least a ninth-inning debacle. Prepare for it, anyway.

You know, Wayne Hagin made a very similar statement to that about Hunter Pence and playing CF.

Yeah, me and Wayne, we think a lot alike.[/quote:rdkyu6hx]

Did you also think Ike Davis was creating havoc on the basepaths yesterday like Rickey Henderson?

McCutchen CF -- an exciting player who may actually turn into something for them
Tabata LF -- toolsy prospect w/MFY taint and questionable power who they took in a trade when they should have been getting more sure things
Walker 2B -- Rookie, 1st round pick from 6 years ago. Playing pretty well
Alvarez 3B -- NY native and 2nd overall pick from 2 years back having an OK rookie campaign in the face of predicted future stardom
Doumit RF -- catcher turned OFer
Clement 1B -- catcher turned 1Bman
Snyder C -- Arizona catcher turned Pittsburgh catcher
Cedeno SS -- young, slappy, low-OBP, Spanish SS of the type Pitt has seemed to have for about 5 decades now
Karstens P -- former MFY scum who came in the same deal (D. Marte & X. Nady) as Tabata

Hey, now, wait. Pittsburgh's no more Latino at short than anybody else. Probably less so. You've got Jack Wilson in the aughts, Jay Bell in the nineties, Dale Berra in the eighties, Tim Foli in the seventies, and Gene Alley taking a big chunk out of the sixties.

Plus they had the only known Egyptian-American in Major League history at shortstop.

He probably was (stilll only?) the first Arab-American of any nationality. His father was an Islamic scholar who started his own sect and was assissinated by people who didn't like that very much, as a result of a fatwa that came down at the same time as the one on Salman Rushdie.

Rich and influential folk helped keep Rushdie in hiding until the heat passed. Not so Rashad Khalifa.

Hey Lennon, when you are twenty games over .500 and cruising to anther NL East title and the post-season baby you can do this, it's called having fun and chilling

@lenno212: I'm really tempted to write something mean and funny about #Mets playing frisbee right now in outfield, but I'm not going to.

Just because he's tempted to write something funny doesn't mean he's capable.

For anyone still harboring a grudge over Pirates clinching in Mets' faces last time Pirates clinched anything, one Met win this weekend deals Pittsburgh its 82nd loss...and assures its 18th consecutive losing season.

Take that, Jim Leyland.

I'm not old enough to remember the Pirates being good. Not really.

Why would I be blacked out on MLB.TV from tonight's telecast?
I live in South Jersey.
I have been getting the SNY feed since I joined the thing around Fathers day.

Well, that call at 1st on Reyes wound up costing us a run with Pagan's follow-up double. Guess the 1B gets the call as long as he's within a foot or so.

That's all right, three is our quota of runs per game anyway. Just a question now of whether Pelf and the pen can hold them to two or less.

One more for the Beloit mindset.

Plus side: Mets beat up on the Orioles at Orioles when Orioles were the worst team in baseball. Pirates are now worst team in baseball and Mets are at Pirates, beating up on Pirates.

Minus side: Beware five-run leads at PNC Park.
