David: lightheadedness.

And that's just from the disbelief that the Mets actually scored a third run.

Hessman looks big and gawky out there but he hasn't made a bad play since he's been up.[/quote:gjfm9jdd]

Nonetheless, survey says he gets the boot with Barajas coming back tomorrow.

He's hit triple digits maybe two or three times this season. I haven't heard any account of him hitting 102.

I doubt all gun readings.[/quote:1gtj0ne5]

Parnell hit 101 on 7/21 against the Diamondbacks: the last pitch he threw in that game. I'll find a 102er eventually ...

"Something came on about the fourth or fifth inning," Wright said. "I felt real nauseous and just throwing up a lot. I just didn't feel like I was helping out all that much. I felt like I did what I could and then really couldn't do much more after that."

"It was just the fact that I just didn't think I could play. Or, if I could play, I couldn't do anything to help those guys out there," he said. "I felt good up until about the fourth or fifth inning, and then something just hit me. I don't know if it's something going through me or I'm just coming down with something. I felt nauseous and dizzy, and more importantly just really throwing up and feeling bad out there. I talked with [manager] Jerry [Manuel] and those guys and they wanted to get someone in there that probably could help them more than I could at that point.

I confess to giving up on this game at the end of the 11th inning, I just had no faith in the offence.

Hey, no bigs.

After the bases-loaded business in the 10th, I found myself half-wishing for an Astros homer to just end it already.

Yeah, but it sounds like you've established that he hasn't been "hitting 101 and 102 all season long, home and road."

I gotta admit, I was very CAHNfident the Mets would win this one. I mean, I worried about the O too (who wouldn't) but DID NOT have the typical bullpen dread I feel with most road games under Jerry.

Kevin Burkhardt confirmed with a couple of scouts in the stands that Parnell hit 101 7times or something in the first inning. I mistrust most gun readings too, but at least there were multiple sources. I'm not sure the difference between 101 and 99 is that huge a deal.

I know gameday was thinking his 91mph changeup(or slider?) was a fastball.

I was confident, also. The fact that Dickey pitched into the ninth meant the Mets got into the opposition bullpen earlier than the Astros did, and so the 'Stros were digging deeper and deeper sooner than the Mets.

It also meant the world to me that Jerry used his "closer" first, and so our pitchers would be used more or less in the order of their expected effectiveness.

This nearly proves, sadly, that keeping a closer in the pen in extra-innings on the road isn't a strategy that's about winning games for Jerry, but about pumping stats up for the overindulged big name. Takahashi may be the nominal closer, but he doesn't have the juice for that sort of treatment.

I also liked the Mets working some walks for once, though Ike swinging 2-0 and poppping up was real annoying.

Correct. But I definitely remember the 102 that Parnell threw prior to last night's game. I specifically remember it because the announcers didn't note it ... which led me to wonder why not?

Yeah. I found some other 101 mph Parnell pitches, but didn't bother to note the time/date etc. because I was looking for the 102's.

That Burkhardt thing is cool, because that kind of implies that there was a consensus on multiple guns.

In High Heat, Tim Wendell writes about how scout's guns disagree all the time and they still use a lot of eyeball judgment to evaluate a guys heat.

I wonder whether the closed roof factors in at all. The outfielders really seem to be misreading the ball a lot this series.
