ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I hat this fucking team..FIRE FUCKING MANUEL DAMMIT!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 No reason to take Niese out FU Jerry.[/quote:15vx0dn4]I have to agree #1. 111 pitches, he certainly could have at least started the 8th.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 The pitching change was stupid but it didn't matter. There was no point in this entire game where I thought the Mets had even a remote shot at winning. The only ball I can recall a Met hitting remotely hard was Reyes lining out to CF and you're not going to win getting 4 singles, 1 walk, and barely getting the ball out of the infield otherwise and all against a pitcher with a 6.00 ERA
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 it's not Jerry, it's an obvious lack of 'F#%& You' attitude.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I think of Wilpon bringing everybody back and get sick.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I'm going to go ahead and say the pitching change mattered.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 This one's on Jerry. Jon was over 100 pitches, but not THAT far over 100 pitches. To hell with the "designated eighth inning guy."[/quote:234t0fs6]Wouldn't this be Warthen's call?Wouldn't he be the one to say that Niese has gone as far as he could?I'm not defending Jerry here, I know the final decision is his, I'm just wondering.

ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Send Jack Ruby into Jerry Manuel's press conference.
HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Niese labored through the first 2 1/3 then cruised through the 7th. Once again Jerry goes against the hot hand by looking at that godd%&&$m pitch count. You are allowed to go against the book once in a while, Jerry.Let us not forget though, and Gary and Keith sure reminded us enough, that Blanton has been just about the worst starter in the NL. We did nothing against him. Oh, and now we decide to put a couple of guys on base.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Ruby's dead. This isn't the time for Carter. Cripes, they're just going to go to a lefty. Let Castillo try to set it up.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Well, y'know, any time you can pull a guy who's set at "mowdown" on his internal cruise control, having set down 13 of 15, having not allowed a hit in 4+ innings, and having thrown 40 pitches in the last 5 innings, you've GOT to make that move.

bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 I went to see Derek Jeter get shot tonight in "The Other Guys" (I almost applauded) so I missed most of this mess.Regardless of whether the decision to pull Niese was right, all Parnell and P. Feliciano have to do is get three outs. Parnell got 21 one of them. The offense didn't do enough against Blanton and Jerry may have made another lousy decision but Parnell and Feliciano are the goats tonight.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Can't wait to hear how Manuel explains himself in the post interview.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Parnell throwing 97 mph right down the fucking middle pitch after pitch hurt a bit I'd say.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 My son just asked me if I hated the Mets. I told him no but that sometimes they make me really really mad.

Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Charlie might actually have been the Manual with the dumbest pitching moves of the night. His just didn't turn out to be as costly.I mean you've got a 5-run lead and your reliever gives up two dinky hits w/one out to go and you feel the need to get your lefty in because you don't think your righty can handle Chris Freakin' Carter even though the tying run isn't even on deck yet?!?Now, just in case I'm not miserable enough, I now turn back to watching Papelbon try to blow his game.God this dope is a chore to watch. One pitch every 30 seconds - and he's only that fast if no one is on base.
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Ricky Bottalico (Phils post game show idiot):Why'd the Mets pull Niese? They had to, he was up over 110 pitches. The Mets are like a falling rock. You drop a rock into water, where does it go?Right to the bottom.

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 One thing that caught my eye during the meltdown was that two balls were hit to center on which runners took the extra base. One was the Werth hit that Sweeney went to 3rd on, and the other was the hit that Werth scored on.Not sure if Pagan holds those runners, or if it would have made any difference in the outcome of the game, but maybe it's time to take a closer look at moving Carlos to one of the corners.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 6, 2010 Posted August 6, 2010 Yeah, he wasn't showing much coverage in the gaps tonight. (Of course, a potential game-saving play was made by Pagan in right, for what it's worth.)Your comments could have also gone in my "Deference" thread.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 7, 2010 Posted August 7, 2010 The problem with that play where Sweeny took 3B was that the OF was deep, essentially in a 'no-doubles' defense. It was still a one-run lead at that point and the idea is to not let Werth get to 2B (of course the 17 straight hits that followed pretty much scuttled those plans but that's a whole 'nother set of problems).Point being, that the only way Pagan in CF makes that inning or even that play any different is if he's playing in an entirely different spot.Meanwhile, on the offensive front:10 groundouts - including 1 GiDP and 3 come-backers to the pitcher7 Ks5 infield pop-outsso that's 23 outs that never left the IFThe remaining 4 outs were in the OF, 2 of which I remember as being hit somewhat hardOf the 10 hits, 9 were singles, 2 of those were IF singles, several of the rest were either seeing-eye or bloops
