Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Wow.Frenchy came up big.Castillo came up big.The bullpen was heroic. We won a close game on the road.wtf
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Well, we can add one of those "perfect saves" I was talking about the other day to Frankie's total.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Satisfying.I'd be happier if I weren't so weirded out. More Jefferson Reserve? More Jefferson Reserve.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 It's almost like the Bizarro World Mets! Look for Ollie to do something good!
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 Late to the party, sans internet most of the night, but wow. It looked like a guy in a Francoeur Braves jersey got the ball!

Fman99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 The Shake Weight: Like jerking off, only without the fun.[/quote:6yikft25]Took me a second, but that's funny. We don't get that commercial during games but do on other SNY programming.[/quote:6yikft25]It's the greatest commercial of all time. Just seeing women shake those in their own faces and grinning like that. It's surreal.

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 3, 2010 Posted August 3, 2010 We were in the studio tonight, but I followed by Gameday. Amazing to see Jerry win (on the road, no less), by being Jerry.[list:onbu2s4o][*:onbu2s4o]Bunting the tying run over (again, on the road!);[/*:m:onbu2s4o][*:onbu2s4o]Playing matchups with his pitchers in the bottom of the seventh;[/*:m:onbu2s4o][*:onbu2s4o]Starting Francoeur and keeping Carter in reserve despite a righthanded starter;[/*:m:onbu2s4o][*:onbu2s4o]Playing matchups with his less experienced hitters; and[/*:m:onbu2s4o][*:onbu2s4o]Pulling his starter after 100 pitches.[/*:m:onbu2s4o][/list:u:onbu2s4o]Only thing that could have made it a more Jerryriffic game is if he found a role for Cora. I guess I've got to hand it to him.I don't like Lowe.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Well, at least my fantasy of Mike Hessman saving the Mets season didn't last too long before being shattered.[/quote:34pbx5je]"Hess" in street Greek means "shit".
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Yeah, well, since the Mets fired Tony Bernazopoulos, Street Greek hasn't been an issue for the organization.

Amazing to see Jerry win (on the road, no less), by being Jerry.[/quote:ah5mzndo]- Bunting the tying run over (again, on the road!) -- this one didn't kill me so much because it was Castillo. I mean, he's one of the few guys who actually CAN bunt and you'd hate to see a GiDP from Mr. Groundball in that spot. Possible also that Luis did that on his own- Playing matchups with his pitchers in the eighth -- better that than to watch Pedro get smushed by a righty and have all of us wondering where Bobby/Manny/Elmer was. Using two relievers to get through a critical, base-runner filled, late inning in a tie game is OK with me.- Starting Francoeur and keeping Carter in reserve despite a righthanded starter -- yeah, well a Frenchy start is problematic under any circumstances at this point. I think they're determined to give him the bulk of the ABs until Bay gets back and hope something happens (like some GM calling Omar and saying; "now about that Francoeur kid ... ").- Playing matchups with his less experienced hitters -- as I said in the IGT, I would have stayed with Thole rather than PH Hessman because what you really wanted there was a single. Of course it did switch Blanco in to the game and that caught stealing an inning later was sweet.- Pulling his starter after 100 pitches. -- PH'd for him, didn't pull him. It was the right move AND it resulted in the tying hit
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 I had hoped to make it clear that I was implicitly acknowledging the upside to all those moves, even though I think they are frequently enough the moves Jerry hangs himself with, particularly as I ended the list by giving Jerry a hand.I think "pull" can certainly mean "pull for a pinch-hitter," Mr. Safire.
Guest The Second Spitter Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 Interesting ebay item(didn't want to start a new thread so thought this would be next best place).
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted August 4, 2010 Posted August 4, 2010 The one bit of Jerry-business with which I had a problem-- aside from the Hessman PH appearance, with which I was only mildly grumbly-- was the bunt after the leadoff Castillo double (the 5th, I think?). So, yeah, a no-out bunting-over from scoring position into double-secret-extra scoring position, made to look all the worse when Castillo didn't break on contact, instead standing on third attempting to wish foul Reyes' subsequent deep grounder to first.Everything else made sense, really.
