batmagadanleadoff Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 If the Times is predicting Wright and Pelfrey as the only Mets, then why is Jose Reyes on that list?

HahnSolo Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Couldn't Strasburg make the team as the sole Nats representative? I'm not convinced about Zimmerman's candidacy (Wright and Rolen clearly are ahead of him...is Polanco still leading the voting?).Who else is there? Matt Capps?
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Polanco's hurt anyway, he won't be there.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 3, 2010 Posted July 3, 2010 Unless the Mets juggle their rotation, Pelfrey won't be eligible; his turn in the rotation will be the Sunday before the All-Star Game.

Although they won't pitch, they will be allowed to appear at the ASG, and participate in the opening introductions.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Congrats, D-Wright: AdamRubinESPN David Wright is starting NL third baseman for All-Star GameReyes is a reserve.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Way to go Charlie Manuel. Picking Omar Infante is surely the way to win the all-star game. The Pelfrey snub aside, the picking of Ryan Howard over Joey Votto is particularly insulting.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 Pelfrey doesn't even make the fan vote nominees. 5 Braves made it.

Hope he's not injured by next week.Hard to think of Reyes and any word indicative of "reserved" in the same sentence, but it's great to see the gold dust twins back in the spotlight. First time Reyes and Wright have been named together since 2007. Four years ago I would've thought they were a perennial lock.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 The Votto snub is rather f*cked. Also, kinda weird he took Howard... but not Werth, who's having a better year.Did he lose a bet to Omar Infante or something? Forget naming a couple... I almost can't stop naming better qualified players-- and better-- in the NL than him.

Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 That sucks though. Pelf and shirley Votto deserve an invite.AverageVotto .313 (4th in NL)Gonzalez .295 (21st) Howard .296 (20th)Home runsVotto 19 (3rd)Gonzalez 16 (8th)Howard 15 (14th)RBIVotto 57 (6th)Gonzalez 51 (17th)Howard 58 (4th)OBPVotto .414 (2nd) Gonzalez .390 (12th)Howard .353 (37th)SLGVotto .574 (2nd)Gonzalez .524 (12th)Howard .506 (14th)OPSVotto .988 (1st)Gonzalez .914 (9th)Howard .859 (20th)
Guest Number 6 Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Yeah, unlike the Pelfrey snub which simply sucks, the Votto snub is inexplicable.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Vote Votto in the run-off if you're given towards that sort of stuff. He's having a great year - as is his team - while Zimmerman is slumping and I'm sick of stacking the AS pitching staffs with closers so fuck Bell & Billy.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 All tha matters to me is who gets the Comissioner's Suck-Up Award.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 So long as Jeter is celebrated, then all is right with the world.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 So who pops out of the relative obscurity of retirement to play All-Star grand marshal-- a la Teddy Baseball or Yogi-- next weekend?Carew? Bobby Grich? Depumped Brian Downing?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 It won't be Downing.Grich is to the Hall of Fame what Votto is the All Star Game, and if you can't make the Hall of Fame, you can't be the house legend.Nolan Ryan, Reggeie Jackson, Carew. These guys have the props. Maybe they'll do all three. A white guy, a black guy, and an Afro-Latin.(And Reggie's sort of Latin-Afro, isn't he?"
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Author Posted July 4, 2010 It should be Leslie Nielsen, umpire of the famous Angels-Mariners game when there was an assassination attempt on the Queen.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Hey! It's Enrico Palazzo!
Zvon Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I read Pelf knew he couldn't pitch in the game, but was hoping to get chosen so he and his son could sit on the sidelines and watch the home run derby.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Isn't his son about eight months old or something? And Pelfrey has some connections. (And money, too!) I'm sure he can get some pretty good seats.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Apparently Charlie Manuel is being quoted saying he picked Howard over Votto "because he's my guy."Who does he think he is, Torre? Remember the year Torre filled the roster with so many MYS like Jeff Nelson that it was basically the MFYs and every team's lone representative?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 My guess is that Votto will be added before too long as someone begs out because of an injury.
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 I would think so. But still, that's not an excuse for Charlie Manuel's stupidity. I expect that Votto, once added, will be given the starting spot as the NL DH.
ashie62 Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Why is Reyes on the All Star team over Votto?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted July 4, 2010 Posted July 4, 2010 Need a second shortstop I guess? Reyes is officially the replacement for the injured Troy Tulowitzki.
