Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Designated for assignment. Omir Santos is in the clubhouse.
Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 If the Phils had just waited one more day, they could have had him one injury away from striking out nightly in front of dad. (Instead, they decided to dicker with Willy.)OMIR?
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Does Omir play CF --- or does this telegraph that another move is on the way?
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 One of the catchers must be hurting. Or a 40-thing?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 metsguyinmichigan wrote:Does Omir play CF --- or does this telegraph that another move is on the way?My guess would be the latter, because the former doesn't work.

metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 No need for a "memories of " thread , move along , nothing to see at all.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Frees up Rod to pinch-hit in the games where Blanco catches -- and allows him to DH in the upcoming interleague games in AL parks.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 The Mets would never do something like trade one of their catchers in the middle of the year, unless it's Castro, of course. Is there a club out there with a desperate need for Henry Blanco?
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Unless, as suggested, somethings wrong with Barajas or Blanco, this doesn't make sense when you have a guy at AAA hitting almost .400 and another AAA guy with 15 homers.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I think they like the Rod/Blanco combo very much and aren't anxious to break it up.That said, I don't know why Omir either. I'm assuming Carter will get a number of the DH ABs or a different move will be made for that reason.3rd string catchers don't make good DHs

Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I'm with the Bucket. Maybe it's a 40-man roster thing, and the spot isn't open until GMJ's fate is determined, be that released or traded.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 This means that they can use Tatis more since he's down to 4th on the catchers depth chart. tobyhyde Mets finally DFA GMJ. That's good. Calling up Omir Santos, hitting a combined .143/.194/.222 in 63 AB btw AA & AAA is perplexing. tobyhyde OF Jesus Feliciano is hitting .388/.435/.488 in AAA Buffalo w/ 13 BB and 16 K in 50 G. He can play CF and LF. Santos can't.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 My guess is that Omir will only be around for a few days. Maybe Barajas or Blanco are having minor aches and pains. And then maybe after those few days, the Mets will send Santos down and replace him with a center fielder from Buffalo.
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Omir is up to take Ollie back with him to Buffalo.
Guest attgig Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 oh Omar. you entice us by finally dfa'ing GMJ, but then you bring up the wrong guy?!?!*sigh*

Guest attgig Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 wow. just realized that santos came from Binghamton. not buffalo. maybe it's because they were in Conneticutt for a game today, while the AAA guys were in norfolk? get santos up in time for gametime? where feliciano wouldn't get up to flushing in time...meaning, they JUST decided to do this today...maybe they were holding out hope that Ollie would agree to a demotion even up till today....only way that I can figure this making sense.
Guest metsguyinmichigan Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 Rubin Tweeting that Blanco is banged-up.
Valadius Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 My guess is Omar slept late today and forgot he was supposed to DFA GMJ by today's game.
bmfc1 Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 SurfingTheMets Team source says Blanco had a cortisone shot (not clear where) will be out a few days.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 No bullpen moves? Would not have been surprised to see Parnell come up for Valdes or Igarashi.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted June 4, 2010 Posted June 4, 2010 I wonder who the emergency center fielder is? I'm guessing, in order: Francoeur, Bay, Tatis, Cora.
