Credit to Jerry for
a) opting for Pedro on account of Votto leading off the inning
and
B) not yanking Pedro in the face of a string of righty sticks

Maybe he's learning not to play the L/R game just because you can.

Now all Pedro has to do is get out of the inning and not make both of us sound stupid.

A little scary and nerve racking, but Feliciano gets it done in the 10th.

After Masset, just two pitchers to go for Cincinnati.

Come on Jose. Time to be a catalyst and ignite the team.

That's a start.

The Mets need to make something happen here. I say take second if Jose can get a good jump.

Bad Bay day indeed.

But Wright does the hustle, and it's on Mr. Likable.

Get some snacks and provisions now, we could still have another 7 or 8 innings to go here...

This is starting to feel like the 20-inning jobber, only with the good parts edited out.

Damn. I was really hoping Jose would run during Bay's at bat to put some pressure on the Reds defense. Then hopefully he would be in scoring position ofr Bay and Wright. Ultimately, it wouldn't have changed the outcome of the inning, but I like to see the Mets be aggressive and force the issue when they have the chance.

crapfart.

We've become that same team that can't score all over again.

Good thing we saved our closer for later when we get the lead.

Aw fuck!

After the buffoonery in Philly this weekend, if they come up empty in Cincy, this may be the beginning of the end. Not generally a sky's falling kind of guy but this has a familiar smell to it.

I looked at that Red's starting lineup and thought that the Reds looked like a candidate for contraction.

And the Mets couldn't takem...poop

If I was the all-powerful Commissioner of Ball, I'd change the save rule to require the pitcher to enter the game with a lead of 12 runs or more in order to get the save. I'd do this just to see how many idiot managers would end up using their highly-paid closers only three times a year.

I don't like the whole approach either but I'm gonna come out and say the Mets were doomed to lose this game not by any decision of the manager but by a shitty offense and an ineffective bench.

K-Rod is still warming up though.....[/quote:mth90h23]

Well sure, gotta have him ready to close the game in case the Mets score in their half.
Unfortunately they didn't and federal law prevents him from being used otherwise.

I'd like to think that Jerry was figuring to use Acosta to get through the bottom of their lineup rather than going w/KRod against their weakest hitters and then have to PH for him the next inning. He could have even stuck with Pedro for one more go around although the LHB Nix was a PHer and probably wouldn't have batted if PF was still in. Then he could use Rodriguez - whether the Mets scored or not - to not only face the meat of the Cincy lineup but also probably for two innings as the NYM pitcher's spot was unlikely to come up the next inning.

Of course to think like that I'd have to ignore Jerry's usual tendencies.
