Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 In these sort of situations (late game on getaway day), I wouldn't be totally opposed to giving the option to the traveling team of whether to play or to cancel. As it was, the Braves landed in St. Louis at 2:30 AM CDT this morning. I would be ok with going to them at 10:30 last night, showing them the radar and letting them choose to wait it out (probably until 12:30 AM or so) and play, understanding that they might not get to St. Louis until 5 or 6 AM, or take the loss and a few more hours of sleep.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Well, a team always has the option to take a loss, don't they? Bobby Cox could have just pulled his team and headed for the airport, thereby forfeiting. (I don't know if there are any fines or other punishments for doing that, however.)
Guest themetfairy Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 I think of Sunday night baseball as a placeholder for Football. ESPN wants people to think of Sunday night as a night for watching sports.
soupcan Old-Timey Member Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 Isn't there a rule that a game or an inning cannot be started or restarted after 12:00am after a rain delay?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 26, 2010 Posted April 26, 2010 The problem is that footballers don't have a game in another city on Monday.Howie and Wayne talked about it last night and Howie (I guess) mentioned that Tom Glavine spoke about how ending Sunday night games is always among the players' demands at CBA time, but always comes off the table, because the money is sweet.I suppose part of what helps sweeten that pot is that the few large market teams carry most of the water with Sunday night scheduling. It seems to me that it shouldn't be too much to ask, at least, that teams playing Sunday night games have a Monday off. But it seems instead that ESPN always picks their games after the schedule is made, and so day games are bumped to the evening.
