I've seen 5 year-olds that can field like that - those were all slow-rollers.

Hitting 85 mph pitches, though - that ain't easy. I see 13 year-olds that play every day that have a hard time with that.

I agree with you, grab a lighter bat and get around quicker, but you know what's strange about that? - A lot of these youth leagues require a minimum weight and length for a bat so a lot of times the kid HAS to swing the heavy bat. At 5 years-old though I doubt there's a league that has that rule. The coach is probably prepping him early to 'play up'. Then again - that kid is small - that might be the lightest bat.

at 5 years old, I doubt there's a league for him. he'd have to be playing teeball with the 1st/2nd graders...

and yeah, he was struggling to get that bat around, and keeping it up for a good followthrough. but, hitting the yellow balls in batting cages requires somewhat of a heavier bat. thos balls got some weight to em. Looks like he was having a better time at it on the field, which would suggest to me that he had a lighter bat with the coach pitching, and a heavier bat at the cages.

at this age, you have to respect the hand eye coordination in hitting an 85 mph pitch. lotta kids have trouble hitting a ball off the tee at that age.

we'll see how he keeps his coordination as he keeps on growing through puberty.

Did no one else think this was a little fishy? Poor, slow, mechanical swing, yet I'm supposed to believe he's hitting 85mph fastballs? And the fielding...lots of cuts before and after he's catching the ball. hard to make a determination.

I know it's probably just the cynic in me, but Was this video released on April 1? We sure this isn't a Sidd Finch thing?

Those machine pitches didn't look 85 mph to me either (and the second guy in the vid mentions [u:33uf14ro]7[/u:33uf14ro]5).
Still, the kid looks like he got skillz. Good thing this isn't hoops otherwise he'd have "street agents" sniffing around him already.

I've seen 28-year-olds that play every day that have a hard time with that. I call them "Mets."
