The Minnesota-New York exhibition yesterday seemed an ordinary spring training game, until Twinkies CF Denard Span hit a screamer foul off MFY starter Phil Hughes into the stands. In a strange twist, the ball angled for-- and hit square in the torso-- a woman wearing a Denard Span jersey. What kind of woman wears a Denard Span jersey to a ST game... in Steinbrenner Field, no less?

Denard Span's mother, Wanda Wilson.

(She's okay- T & R at the stadium.)

In the clip I saw on espn they showed Jeter running in to the stands and performing chest compressions and saving the day.

And several sports tv shows prefaced that with film (tape?) of Knoblach beaning Keith Olberman's (sp?) mom with a throw in a game 10 years ago.

One guy commented that there were about 20 family members in attendance, and Span knew where they were sitting.
It looked to me that he ran over there so fast he was trying to beat the ball to his mom.

While Nomar sat thousands of miles away and did nothing. NOTHING.

When I saw the clip I told D-Dad that Span owes his mom a really great Mother's Day gift.

Eff that. He got her a foul ball! That's a great gift!
