metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 edgy, without getting too deep into your methodology, how are you giving so much love to perez? 4 earned, 4 walks, and 2 bequeathed runners in a 5.2 inning losing effort can't be almost double the next best guy, can it?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 12, 2010 Posted April 12, 2010 I know, right? It came out that way and I'm checking my data. But a few upside contributing factors are: (1) he struck out six, (2) only eight baserunners is pretty good, and (3) going 1-2 with a two-out RBI, he was perhaps the team's most effective hitter, net.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 12, 2010 Author Posted April 12, 2010 makes me feel better about giving igarashi a 3.0, at least...
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 Oops, I almost forgot to post this...Tomorrow will be the first Wacky Wednesday of the 2010 season. Voting will close for three games, those played against the Nationals this past weekend:Schaefer POTG 04/09/10 Mets 8, Washington 2Schaefer POTG 04/10/2010 Washington 4, Mets 3 Schaefer POTG 4/11/10 - Nationals 5, Mets 2If you haven't voted yet and intend to, please try to do so sometime today.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 By the way, the boxscore linked to Sunday's PotG thread is all bolluxed up. It only indicates the Mets pitching seven innings. If you haven't voted yet, you may want to choose another. If you have voted, you may want to double check.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 13, 2010 Posted April 13, 2010 I noticed that too. It seems that Yahoo doesn't know who Valdes is. (They even have him listed as Valdez.) His pitching line score is all zeroes.

metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 14, 2010 Author Posted April 14, 2010 2 for 2 with a homer and 2 walks is getting barely more beer than 2 innings of blowout relief with 2 walks and 3 strikeouts?
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 14, 2010 Posted April 14, 2010 Yeah, David Wright was everything the Mets need him to be yesterday, and few folks are giving him so much as a 2.0. Some are giving him far less.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 15, 2010 Posted April 15, 2010 Voting for Tuesday night's loss to the Rockies in Denver will close early on Friday. If there are any uncast votes, please try to get them in today.Schaefer POTG 4/13/2010 - Rockies 11 Mets 3

Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 When giving out points for the 20 inning marathon, keep in mind that your hitters scored two runs (all off fake pitchers) in 20 innings --- an average of 0.9 per game. The pitchers, on the other hand, managed a 0.45 ERA. Distribute the points accordingly.
Frayed Knot Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I think I went 7/3 in my points for pitchers/non-pitchers and, even then, some of my non-pitcher points were for defensive purposes: Cora, Francoeur, Blanco
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 Yeah, but, Francoeur also went like oh-for-50. His defensive contributions had to have been wiped out by all the outs he made, no?
Gwreck Old-Timey Member Posted April 19, 2010 Posted April 19, 2010 I agree. Aside from Cora (who didn't have a lot of PAs), I don't think any non-pitchers were points-worthy.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Yes, use your own judgment. And please don't let the judgment of others, expressed in this thread, keep you from participating. It's too early in the season to start eating away at the voter pool.

Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Voting for all three games of the past weekend's series in St. Louis, including the historic 20-inning zeropalooza, will close on Wednesday morning. If you have any votes still to cast, please try to do so today.Schaefer POTG 4/16/10 - Cardinals 4, Mets 3Schaefer PTOG 4/17/10 - Mets 2, Cardinals 1 (20 Innings)Schaefer POTG 4/18/10 - Cardinals 5, Mets 3The Sunday game (April 18) is still a little bit low on votes. So far we've heard from themetfairy, G-Fafif, Chad Ochoseis, Benjamin Grimm, John Cougar Lunchbucket, metirish, LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr, and Frayed Knot.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I apologize for not saying please, but why is there something particuarly wrong with discussing how points are distribututed? That eats away at the voter pool? Really?
metirish Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Edgy DC wrote:I apologize for not saying please, but why is there something particuarly wrong with discussing how points are distribututed?I thought that was the point of the thread? , I think you Edgy can come across a bit brusk at times. Your intimidating, a head hunter...if you were a pitcher you'd be more Clemens than Estes.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Well, again, I apologize for not saying please in my previous contention. I don't want heads. I want someone to talk to.I'm like the big dumb ape squeezing the poor little lovable rabbits to death.
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Author Posted April 20, 2010 where's george when you need him?

"Well, if I'm going to get ripped for giving Santana a 4 instead of a 2.83, why should I bother voting?"
G-Fafif Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Have faith in your Crane Pool comrades to cast informed ballots even if they reach somewhat varied conclusions. They watch/know the Mets, too.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I certainly have faith. I just think it's a worthy point of discussion. And I certainly don't mean to rip, but improve all of our votes through enlightened exchanges.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 "Distribute the points accordingly" sounds a bit authoritarian. It would be better for you tell us why you voted the way you did without telling everyone else how to vote.
Guest Edgy DC Guests Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 Yes. And I've apologized twice, and I do so again sincerely. I certainly meant any authoritarian tone to be flip and ironic. But I don't think I've been phrasing discussion such way for multiple seasons or anything. Not generally, and certainly not seriously.I guess I've tried many tones to generate discussion on voting.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 20, 2010 Posted April 20, 2010 I know. And I'm in the awkward position of speaking for others based on a "feeling" that I've picked up. I may be completely off base here, and if so, then I apologize for that. I personally don't have any problem with your comments; I just get a bit discouraged when participation goes down. (And it's not because of my "hard work." Schaefer tallying literally only takes me a few minutes per day.)
