Guest LeiterWagnerFasterStrongr Guests Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Heh. Mikey Cougar probably pushed the hell out of whomever it was he quoted, and it's likely one line, out of context, in a 15-minute interview (or something along those lines). But, still... I'm with ABNS.I figure it's got to be someone who:A) Wasn't around last year/was likely in a slightly smaller market last yearand Is fighting for a job right now. (Hence the red-ass-ness.)My guess: Lil' Sarge. (Second, far-off guess: Chris Carter.)
A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 You're probably right. The part about him being babied wasn't used with the player's quote, though the player's quote that he used is sorta dumb anyway. Guy from a small market, fighting for a job, who wasn't around last year... Mike Jacobs. (sorry, Mike)
metsmarathon Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 well, he's in the minor league games so if they wanted to they could start him on the DL, but it could be retroactive like 10 days prior to the start of the season, or something like that. if he plays a major league exhibition game, and they want to start him on the dl, he has to be out the full 15 days from OD. has nothing, presumably, to do with babying or avoiding injury, and everything to do with maximizing their roster flexibility
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 The Mets are hilarious however. They'll do something until the point where the criticism of it reaches a ridiculous peak then make a show of doing the complete opposite thing. I think it was Rubin's interview on the Patchy Fogg Family Smiletime Variety Hour where I heard Rubin relate they are so spoked by injuries this year they wouldn't even let Josh Fogg pitch; however, he said, players had a distinct impression last year that the organization didn't want to know about injuries (He described this via a particular clubhouse encounter between Church and Schneider, the latter suffering enough pain to make an injury obvious). They took hundreds of beatings for how they handled the Chuch concussion; the next guy hit in the head was disabled immediately (even though the injury was probably less severe given it was his first) and returned him wearing his gigantic helmet. They sat with eyes shut and ears covered while the '08 bullpen collapsed around them; only when its over, they go out and spend the most money for the guy with the most saves.

(sorry, Mike)Thought about that. But he's been here, and at the major-league-level, for a spell-- I'd imagine he's a little more likely than Lil' Sarge and Captain Intensity to keep his mouth shut around NY reporters. I may be wrong.

A Boy Named Seo Old-Timey Member Posted March 31, 2010 Posted March 31, 2010 Quit babying the guy already and let him play.
Benjamin Grimm Old-Timey Member Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 Latest word is that Jose is expected to return to the Mets and play shortstop on Saturday.
Guest John Cougar Lunchbucket Guests Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 How awesome would it be that we'd be 4-0 when he joins back? Yes yes yes
Ceetar Grand Central Contributor Posted April 7, 2010 Posted April 7, 2010 How awesome would it be if we're 4-0 when he returns AND he goes 4-4 with a Cycle?
